Charlie Hurley day tomorrow where he is being presented to the crowd before the match.. It is nice to be able to honour our heroes while they are still alive and kicking, and Big Charlie was/is a hero for us both on and off the pitch..
I hope he gets the respect he deserves and that people get in the ground early enough to see the presentation..

May not be too many of them there RAW, but if the chant for Charlie that went up for corners at Roker goes up the younger ones on here will be in for a treat.

Buy Vince a pint for me and he can start it,

I saw him play a couple of times as a kid, but I have met him a number of times as an adult at events...He is an absolute gentleman and a great ambassador for our club.

Charlie Hurley is an icon. For me!

My old man and all his mates pretty much revered him in red and white stripes!

Can't add much more than that other than my old man and his mates loved him. And that's enough for me.

Get the players on the pitch, introduce Charlie, get the chant levels up and if that does not inspire them I give up.

He lived up on Humbledon Hill. And we'd have sat outside his house in my early teens if it hadn't been for the fact that Monty lived further into the estate and his wife was an absolute stunner!! Their front garden wall was much comfier!! <laugh>

He was in floods of tears as he went off apparently, safe to say he appreciated it.

It set the tone for a good atmosphere today in what was a pressure game.

I was in the Family Corner, so couldn't see as well as I'd have liked.

But from this clip it's obvious that King Charlie was as affected by the occasion as his admirers were.

My old limited edition Charlie Hurley t-shirt was unwrapped and pressed into service and No1 Grandson was slightly bemused at the whole event.

Whoever came up with idea has my eternal thanks.

    May The King Live Forever.

Just watched the video from the Echo, for a bloke of eighty he looks really well, he's not changed at all in his facial features, like turning the clock back to see him.

He got quite emotional which is understandable, I was trying to sort who else was with him, Monty obviously, Cec Irwin, Len Ashurst then I struggled after that, anybody know the full lineup?.

Just hope some of yesterday's team took a hard look at what a legend means at a club, especially Pickford, Watmore and the other younger members of our squad, its there for them to grab if they want it hard enough.

Pity MOTD couldn't have spent a few seconds to feature their time out on the pitch, they devote lots of time to clowns on there who would never be good enough to lace up Charlie's boots.

Yes MOTD a big disappointment there. If it had been a Chelsea/manU player......
A bottle of hair dye and a 60's strip, he could have been coming onto the pitch to play ! I was about 8 when I got his autograph when he opened something locally, the way I remember his face from that day is exactly how he looked yesterday. Hope we can all age likewise !
