Sure. A draw is not as bad as a defeat but it means 1 point instead of 3 and in the context of a title race it would be a relative setback. Draws are NOT good (ask Spurs).
really the point is well made. by all means win as many as possible but every game is independent even and at no time were spurs looking for draws like they've ended up with. Some teams do set up to get draws yes but i the main teams at the top go out to win and it doesn't always work out. look recent. 1-1 v arsenal. they'd come off quite a fixture list into this one. they scraped a pen second half but were they only looking for draw no. 1-1 v leicester. spurs hit the woodwork twice and the real story is they were asleep at restart and conceded 0-0 v bournemouth. battered on the door but could not score. the reality is they missed kane and have not scored enough. the credit side of the story is that they have been good defensively and scraped through. I mean sometimes you try and try but those goals don't go in and you rue the chances I'm sure at some point we will see our own club repeat the utd game result where we couldn't score or burnely game. Sometimes they don't go in and you pay for it.
That is why the attack is more important than the defence if you are looking to win the title. The team with the best attack usually wins the title rather than the one with the best defence (of course even better to have both !!)
well... it must be said that for past 20 years that is certainly the case 1989 and 1991 i couldn't say so as george graham ground it out but leeds, balckburn.. every utd team i can think of. arsenal in 1998 and 2002 etc... chelsea had 3 fine player in 2004 up front.. Really even leicester had two players who performed best. I can think of sides like newcastle where the just as good an attack failed to win a title.. like ahem 2013/14... so you need to have a competitve defence yes. atletico is the closest i cna think recently in spain and even their their forwards were top players
A truism is that " No title winners have had a rubbish defence". A decent defence is essential but you also need a highly productive attack to protect the goals you score and give you the wins rather than the draws.
You only need to remember when we had the great Ngog El Zhar and Poulsen to call on when injuries came through. The reality is we need the squad as much as we need the first team and the quality on the bench gives me comfort we can win most of the games
Yeah we have a better squad, but still if Lallana and Coutinho aren't playing we will not look as fluid as we have done and will have to properly grind out the result.
And if we can't do that then maybe it is too early and it'll take more time for us to be genuine contenders.
