Sunderland have been linked with a double raid on Irish outfit Dundalk – and could even pip bitter rivals Newcastle United to one player.Winger Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle have emerged as potential January targets for David Moyes as he looks to strengthen his squad.

The duo were both called into Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland squad for the recent game against Austria, though neither made it off the bench.

Horgan has gained the most headlines lately, with Newcastle understood to be tracking the player’s progress.

However, reports suggest Sunderland are very keen on the 24-year-old, who has scored 10 goals for Dundalk this season, and has impressed on the Europa League stage.

Rangers, Aston Villa and Birmingham City have also scouted Horgan.

Boyle, meanwhile, has emerged as another potential target. The centre-back has also impressed this season in the Irish league, and Glasgow gianst Rangers are also believed to be keen on him.

The 25-year-old has been capped at Under-19 level for Ireland.

David Moyes has previous in spotting young Irish talent, having signed Seamus Coleman from Sligo Rovers for £60,000 when he was Everton boss.

And Sunderland raided the Irish league under Steve Bruce’s management to sign James McClean in 2011.

I know nowt about either of them but Moyes has got a decent record of signing lower league players. Also if they have bot been in the Ireland squad they surely cant be too bad?

Great if they work out... If they don't Moyes and Short will cop some flack.

The fact the kid is 24 and hasn't left Ireland doesn't bode all that well for me.

Yeah agreed but this lad is linked with Villa, Birmingham, Rangers and us! Not exactly the level we should be hoping for although I will reserve judgement on ability until they do/may/whatever sign for us

The Irish aren't exactly world-beaters mate... One of them is a CB being kept out of the squad by our very own John O'Shea.......

Cattermole just declared out for 4 months with hip injury.

You might need to raid more clubs.

This fills me with hope that we'll beat the drop this year.

Speaking of Irish, heard a likely bullshit rumour about Robbie Keane.

Seems a few year too late for that one.
