given all that has happened this season would staying up be regarded as the greater achievement?

    No
In fact depending on what happens next staying up could end up being a nightmare

The whole ground stood up and bouncing whilst singing to the tune of The Great Escape wouldn't happen now.
The club was in **** street then with dodgy owners but it still felt to the fans it was their club come what may. It doesn't feel that way now, many fans feel disconnected from the vlub and a lot of ones in the KC are PL fans rather than City fans.

No not at all. That was life or death of the club as we knew it. This is more Prawn Sandwiches or Meat Pies (I hope).

In the days of passing buckets round and digging deep to save 'our' club the great escape was a one off experience which the team, management and supporters all pulled together to see us survive .. I fear now that if buckets were passed round the majority of us would piss in it just to spite the Allams

I think he was referring to the whole ground standing up, bouncing and singing
    ...which didn't happen
However the atmosphere was a million times better than it is now

If as large a percentage of the crowd joined in now as did then it would be one hell of an atmosphere. Even the West Stand was clapping along and singing. The West Stand nowadays wouldn't.

Nail on head. I cared in the Great Escape - as in it occupied my thoughts, I expressed genuine worry about going down and / or the club folding and truly didn't know what I would do if either of those scenarios came to fruition - I'd have acutely felt the loss in my life. I obviously want us to stay up this season but the reality is, if (when) we do go down, I'll barely give a ****. No prizes for guessing who's primarily to blame for that change in sentiment.

Plus in answer to the OP, you could possibly make an argument that staying up this year would be a greater achievement given how thread bare our squad was at the beginning of the season but the consequences of not staying up do not even come close to comparing with that of the Great Escape
