"I know Ravel and he's a talented kid. He's had his ups and downs but he's playing football. I've worked with him and he is young and talented. He's not really someone in my mind to bring to this club." - Mike Phelan
He had worked with and knew all about will Keane. Including his problems with his crucial element presumably. However, as far as Morrison goes, this sounds less dismissive of the possibility of him coming here. Any sport in a storm and all that. "We are already looking at players who can come in and strengthen the squad in January, and there’s no question that Ravel is a talented boy," Phelan said. “He has had his ups and downs, but I worked with him when he was an up-and-coming prospect at United and know what he’s got to offer. “Over the years that talent hasn’t always come to the fore, but he is a young player with bags of ability that just needs harnessing in the right way.”
Villa fans think Alex Bruce is available to leave on a free but he's on an enormous premier league wage which Villa aren't willing to match. Loan more likely.
I agree with Castro (for once), he is not ruling out completely a move for Morrison, I suspect he might be a back-up plan.
I raised this at the time we signed him. If he's gash can we sack him off? He's gash. So I'll re-ask the question.
That's it? He's neat and does his job? I'm away to hunt for me socks which have disappeared with some velocity.
Well, consider the other options. Huddlestone, who has declined a fair bit since we signed him and is a little too overconfident in his long range passing ability. Livermore, who is still adjusting to life in midfield again and is only just getting back to his best, Mason who, despite costing the better part of £13m is still yet to realise his potential with us, Clucas who has been very good in a central role and Meyler, who, well, you know. He's not been spectacular (aside from a goal and an assist on his debut), but he plays some neat balls and due to injuries/tactical changes he's not been played in the advanced midfield position that made him so formidable and highly rated at AZ. For €4m he's an absolute steal. He probably needs more than 4 PL appearances to adjust to the league we are playing in too.
Martin Samuel in the DM sums up the situation regarding Ravel Morrison perfectly. "As a former Manchester United coach, Mike Phelan is no doubt only too aware of the talent of Ravel Morrison. The best player through the academy since Paul Scholes: that was the word. It explains why Sam Allardyce was persuaded to take him at West Ham — and why another friend of Sir Alex Ferguson, Harry Redknapp, took a chance on him at Queens Park Rangers. Yet Morrison’s career has been one downward spiral. Manchester, then West Ham, Birmingham, QPR and Cardiff on loan and, finally, Lazio. The clean break from the English environment it was thought he needed did not work out, either. Morrison exhausted patience in Rome just the same. please log in to view this image Phelan may think Morrison will bring invention to Hull, and heaven knows he needs some, but he is not the player we thought, or even the one Phelan remembers. That player was young and had the chance to grow and learn. The penny would drop, he would move away from the bad crowd, he had time. Now? Morrison is 24 in February. He has spurned one of the biggest clubs in Europe, rejected the Olympic Stadium and the Stadio Olimpico, failed even to make an impression in the Championship. Sure, he could do it at Hull. He has the talent. But with the opportunities he has been given, the fact he hasn’t learned by now suggests he never will."
I think some are far to quick to be judging mason and henriksen let them settle eh, theyve come into a difficult club with backroom staff turmoil etc theyve been here a matter of months and i for one will wait and give them every chance. Regarding morrison all the united lads were in awe of him in the academy players including rashford, pogba and lingaard thats how good he was coming through, all the ability in the world hes tricks and flicks are unreal, i remember a couple of early appearances for united and you could tell he had it, for a young lad he oozed confidence always wanted the ball, used it well and generally looked very dangerous, no doubts if we can get himm to mature and behave he,d be the koren type we could do with Maybe last chance saloon for the kid how much does he want it, id show him the careers of other hugely takented kids that disappeared, and theres a fair few
He's got his own table in the last chance saloon, he's been living in there for the past four years...
Totally agree Incentive based contract, with clauses related to behaviour could be worth a punt, then again why gamble
