Hull City right-back Ahmed Elmohamady has revealed he almost joined Everton in the summer – but was persuaded to remain at the KCOM Stadium.

Signing for Hull because of his admiration for Steve Bruce, Elmohamady says it was the intervention of his former manager which ensured he stayed with the club.

The Egyptian international agreed a new deal in June to stay at the Tigers until 2019, but only after former City boss Bruce convinced him to turn down offers from their soon-to-be Premier League rivals at the time.

The Toffees, alongside Crystal Palace and Swansea, were just three clubs vying for his signature but Elmohamady has reaffirmed his commitment to Mike Phelan's side ahead of facing his former club Sunderland this weekend.

"Change is a good thing and I'm not bored at Hull City. I have the love and respect of my teammates at the club and a very strong relationship with everyone," Elmohamady told dmc sports.

"Last season I received offers from Everton, Crystal Palace, and Swansea City. However, my move to Everton was compromised due to the departure of Roberto Martinez, and the signing of Dutchman Ronald Koeman.

"Steve Bruce met with me before his unexpected departure and asked me to extend my contract due to his confidence in my abilities, which was formed over the five years we have worked together.

"Because of this, I extended my contract for 3 years and hope to stay with Hull City till the end of this contract.

"I moved to Hull City when they were in the Championship as a big gamble because I wasn't playing at Sunderland, and because of my admiration for Steve Bruce."

I thought he'd gone till I caught one of his crosses 20 rows up behind the goal.

The modern day football I suppose, but why do we have to slag offf every player. Ye he's not been as good this season, was poor at times last season. But overall he's been a great player for us.

I'm sure the "stars" of the 60's team were brilliant every week, week in week out. Giving everything and winning all the time and never made any mistakes...

Regardless of his overall contribution for us chazz there's no way a team like Everton would want Elmo based on last seasons form in the championship

Don't base it on that then.
As a free agent I can imagine a few pl clubs would take him.

Yep,he was a great player for us but his legs and his heart seem to have gone in the last couple of year. We shouldn't have given him such a long contract.

I'm not sure many clubs wouldn't look at a players current form when signing a player. I'm sure if any serious offers from pl clubs had come in he'd have gone unless the lead in his boots which he seems to accuired stopped him. We more or less knew most of the summer Bruce's future was in doubt, I'm sure the players had the same thoughts

Except he got his act together with odubajo in the last half dozen games.

We paid what a couple of million for Elmo, tops. That buys you a weir or a Keane nowadays.

I agree for what we paid he was a good buy and overall we've more than had our money's worth but Everton won't have been interested in that, his current form and form last season (not including the last half dozen games in which you say he improved) won't have been enough for a team that have aspirations and the financial power to challenge the top 5/6 pl teams

Elmo looks tired to me. I doubt Bruce wants him. That's just what his agent told him to say. Contracts talks are easy when you're an Egyptian. Three ****ing years :emoticon-0106-cryin

You're right, he's not been the same player since we went down. But this is what happened to him at Sunderland, he came to us and was rejuvenated.

That all makes sense but you're not consistent on this. You're regularly bashing some players on here. Tom, Jake, and Keane for example.

My issue with this article is he openly admits he would have gone but Everton changed their manager so he had to settle for staying with us.

For having a poor game. Elmo's been here years and overall been a great signing.
Keane was a disaster as predicted by me and glp.
I "bash" Tom cos he has more talent than anyone in that midfield but hasn't fulfilled his
Undoubted potential. That's the biggest crime you can commit, not use your talent to the best of your ability.

The same is true of Elmo at times though. Most of last season for example.

This I have to agree, I just feel if he lost a stone in weight he would be much more mobile. I just feel also with Jake he has bulked up a bit too much, and look less mobile than before.

And i slated Elmo when he played poorly, which he did a lot. But not as bad as Tom.

So what ill say again is overall hes been great player for us.
