Any Toon fans on here like to keep fit?

  1. I'm not doing weights or trying to bulk up, but i've recently over the last 4-5 weeks been running regularly to try and keep fit. I'm not aiming to lose weight or burn fat because i don't need to, but after around 2-3 months of being unemployed i was doing no exercise and running up St James' Park seemed like a chore. I decided i didn't want to be this out of shape.

    So i decided to start jogging/running -

I just want to ask - I do about 30 mins of running 3-4 times a week, and in the time i probably travel around 3 miles and maybe a bit more. Is that enough? I take a few quick breathers for around 20 seconds or so, but the amount of times i need to stop has improved, probably around 3-4 times over the course of the work out. But i make sure i add the time i stop on to my total. I'm probably out of the house for about 40 mins, but the actual time i'm running is around 30 mins, maybe a little bit more... idk

    Any advice?

Btw it's not a slow jog that i do, i keep a good pace so i can really feel it in my legs, back and arms. I make sure to really push my body to it's limits.

Everyone is different. As long as you continue to push yourself ( tire yourself out ) you will improve and consequently become fitter.

For some what you are doing is too much for them, but for others its not enough.

    Only you know!

It's enough if you want it to be enough. There's no minimum you should really be doing as everyone is different.

If you don't want to lose any fat or build muscle, but just 'keep fit' then what you're doing is ample. Obviously, if you want to get more fit, then you should increase your distance and/or intensity.

And I'd hope that you're doing much more than 2 miles in only 30 minutes. That's 4mph, which is basically a brisk walking speed.

  7. To be honest i've always wondered if i was doing more, i do 16-18 lengths of my back field, which is 2 and 1/2 football pitches long i think.

That's actually more than two miles lol. That's actually 16 x 250 meters (i think) which is around 4000m, so i'm doing 2 and a half miles in 30 mins then, or there abouts.

I can second this, repition is the key and overload helps. Push yourself just past the point of exhaustion each time you do this you will notice you've either ran quicker or further!

Example:- I enjoy ten-pin bowling and have been in the league at my local bowling alley for 4 years now. After just 6 months of swinging 15lbs over 100 times each tueday and wednesday my right bicep is 3 inches bigger than my left. I don't care enough about my odd arms to lift weights but the point is have patience!

I'm going to leave myself out there for the inevitable comments that will follow!

I'm running for Leonard Chesire Disability. Missed training for a bit due to birthday, graduation and other goings on so need to do a hard push this month back into it in time for the end of September. Might miss out on my target time, but I'll definitely still finish which is/was the main thing for me.

I don't have a gym nor room for a bench at the moment, so just making do with my dumbbells and pull up bar to tide me over until I can join the uni gym in October. I have been tempted to get into running of late, there's even a weekly 5km run at the park 50m away from here. One problem I'm having atm is not wanting to just run around an area I don't know.
