Which is another way in that would avoid the wall. Some people aren't eligible for them, though.

That border is almost 2,000 miles long. Anybody who seriously think that they can effectively police the entirety that is sadly deluded!...

I'll say this about Trump :

    - I think in many ways he is an idiot
    - He did a pretty darn good job of getting elected
    - He's as well intentioned as any of them
    - I'm glad he got elected over Clinton
    - I think he'll do a decent enough job in spite of being subject to constant ridicule
    - I think the world will be a better, safer place under him than it would have been under Clinton
    - I think his knockers should have the decency to follow Obama's lead, and congratulate his achievement of getting into office, and give the guy a chance to see what he does

Here's my experience of the Mexican border

Crossing from the US into Mexico (in 2002)
Took a tram from central San Diego to San Ysidro, got on a bus, and at the border a Mexican border guard got on the bus, looked around for a couple of seconds, then said the bus could enter

Crossing from the US into Mexico (also in 2002)
Stood in a long queue in Tijuana, handed over my passport and driver's license, had a couple of burly motherfuckers from border security grab my bottle of water to make sure it wasn't vodka (yet someone didn't notice I was four or five over the eight by that time...), wandered through, had a couple of guns pointed at me because I was hanging around the toilets too long - which had nothing to do with trying to remember which foot was which due to drinking an entire brewery's worth of Dos Equis yet still having change for $20...

By the way.Why did Comey come out with the Hillary email bullshit......and who had been nosing around her rubbish anyway? Are even the big politicians not allowed privacy from prying eyes? Apparently not........was this a Trump thing to start with, with help from the National Enquirer (Donald's mate)?

I can't take any result seriously that ignores the public vote. In fact it is bizarre that it's even possible to have a system that allows for a different victor than most of the people voted for. It's an easy enough calculation. Give it to the person who got the most votes!

So people saying that if you protest you are anti-democratic doesn't have so much credibility when the candidate that lost had more votes.

The issue is a dead duck, unfortunately.

It says everything about the quality of the two candidates that Trump could even be considered seriously as a president of the USA.

A country of around 300mill people, and the best either side could come up with was these two?!...<doh>

It's weird, isn't it? You'd still get to elect the local politicians, so I don't see the advantage of the electoral college.
Trump wanted to get rid of it four years ago, when he thought that Romney beat Obama.
Went on one of his Twitter rants and called for an uprising. Obama actually won by about 5m votes.

The simple reason why the US uses the electoral college system is because, as I've said before, it hasn't occurred to them that they can write more than one constitution.

Apparently, the fabled border wall with Mexico is now to be part fence.

Rumours that it is to be made of broken promises and old bollocks are, as yet, unconfirmed.

    I'd have to agree.

As awful as Trump is, give me him over a religious fanatic doing 'god's will' anyday!

    Not at all.

As a scientist/engineer by education/profession, I understand what he is
TRYING to say (but he is failing to do) . Similarly I would instantly destroy him by
showing his 'appeal/hope' would be hypocrisy at best, a hidden agenda at worst.

He's using the common creationist, "It's just a theory!", tactic, which shows one of two things.
Either he actually believes that's a genuine criticism, in which case he's an idiot or he's being disingenuous.
I'd tend to go with the latter, to be honest.
