Wales v. Serbia World Cup Qualifiers Group stage Date - 12 November 2016 Kick off - 19:45 Venue - Cardiff City Stadium Wales continue their World Cup qualifying campaign against Serbia on Saturday evening. Much of the pre-match publicity has been centred over FIFA's refusal to allow Wales to have poppies emblazoned on the players' jerseys. Wales have agreed, albeit reluctantly to comply, but both England and Scotland have decided to ignore FIFA and have poppies on their shirts when they clash on Friday night. Following 2 consecutive draws, Wales will be hoping to return to winning ways. However, Serbia now head the group following an impressive 3-2 over much-fancied Austria, which backed up a 3-0 victory over Moldova. Serbia has also drawn 2-2 with the Republic of Ireland. Wales will be boosted by the return of Aaron Ramsey, but will be without former Swans favourite Ben Davies who is injured. Wales and Serbia have met on only 2 occasions - the previous World Cup campaign - when Serbia ran out victors in both games, dishing out a 1-6 hammering in Vojvodina. Turning to Saturday, I think the return of Ramsey will give Wales a lift, but the loss of Ben Davies will counterbalance Ramsey's return somewhat, so I'm going for a 1-1 draw, but hoping for a 2-1 win!
Tough call this one, its not going to be easy. Last result vs Serbia was a 6 - 1 defeat. We're threadbare at the back too. Alexandar Mirtovic vs Paul Dummett??? Be afraid, be very afraid.
I just cant get excited and think we are already out of qualification. Seems the FAW don't have the balls of the FA or SFA, who will defy FIFA and wear poppies on their armbands. Probably be a boring 1-1.
When I heard we weren't going to wear poppies I thought it was an away game. To give in to FIFA using fines or point deductions as an excuse is an act of cowardice by the FAW. Thank goodness those who gave their lives were not cowards unlike those in charge at the FAW. Well done to England and Scotland the FAW make me ashamed to be Welsh.
I would like the FAW to read this and this is why we wear poppies. please log in to view this image Anyway good luck Wales tomorrow night.
Toughest game so far and Wales are right not to wear the poppy with the threat of sanctions of a possible points deduction or even a fine, Fifa might be the most corrupt organization in the world but they have the power and we are right not to risk it....This is where for once the FAW have got it right and will decorate the stadium instead. We can't risk our chances of qualification over something so silly as wearing a poppy or not.
I'm not watching today. It's rare that I'm not proud to be Welsh but today is one of those days. Spineless FAW officials have capitulated to the Leftist fascists at FIFA and I'll have no part of it. Hope we win. Good luck to the players.
Kiff Why would you want to risk Wales being punished ? They could ruin our chances of qualification,,,I cant understand that....NI are doing the same and using the poppy around the stadium and before the game, So the spineless FAW officials as you call them and im not their biggest fan are right on this as we cant risk the consequences that may or may not happen.....Better safe than sorry......
Sorry it is a cop out by the FAW and I am ashamed of them. I am 100% with Kiff on this and I will not watch this. By the way Wales wont qualify anyway, but if making a stand stopped that then so be it.
