The guy seems to think that I should be jealous because some words on a screen say they have a bigger house than me
I don't care what he has. And the fact that he wants people to....speaks volumes about him.

 

Exactly. Unfortunately though, he's not the only one who's like it. There are a few of them like it.

You dont have to use your own photo. In fact I think you'd be too ashamed of using your own photo. I'd advise you not too.

He wants to give his offspring a hand on the property ladder. Briefly, only child, still lives at low mortgage home but working in low pay job..

Options.
Give family home to them, and stay themselves as tenants.
Give/sell/rent family home to them and buy a new place themselves.
Buy other house and rent it to child until they get on their feet, then sell it to them.

Any other options/pit falls?

Unfortunately, Pete does bring out the worst in me. I can handle being called a ****. Its the "I'm more intelligent, financially astute, know all, you're a peasant" type attitude that I really despise, when the reality is that he really has nothing to boast about.

I referred to my mortgage and didn't mention my property. You thought you'd come up with a gratuitous childish comment about my property which was a lie. You were the first one that mentioned my property. This is the way you talk. Lie after lie. I'm sure your wife doesn't know that you have a photo of another guy on the same forum as you. If she did I wouldn't be surprised if it confirmed a few things for her.

Without any information on the value of the house it's difficult to say. Buying a second house now attracts increased SDLT and there's also restrictions on tax relief on mortgage interest. Inheritance tax is also an issue unless he's likely to live for seven years.
