The opening juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham looks a cracker with a capital "C". Top of the card is Paul Nicholls Wealth des Mottes who comes here with a very tall reputation and carries a 7lbs penalty for winning a class 1-3 race in France on debut. We then have 3 horses who have each won a class 4 juvenile hurdle in Britain and carry a 4lbs penalty - Diable De Sivola (won at Uttoxeter but beaten twice since under a penalty), Nucky Thompson (won a good battle with Castafiore 8 days ago) and the former John Gosden inmate, who I tipped up for his debut victory at Plumpton, East Indies. The remainder race off 10-12 and are headed by Phillip Hobbs' very impressive Ffos Las winner Defi Du Seuil, who looks a really nice prospect for JP, and Alan King's Dino Velvet, who has yet to jump a hurdle in public but had a nice prep on the flat in September - connections always warrant respect in this type of race. If 8 or more go to post I would fancy an e/w snifter on East Indies (who will need to settle much better than he did at Plumpton) and a win bet on Defi Du Seuil, who looked the real deal at Ffos Las and gets weight from all the other previous winners.
Looks like a very competitive days racing again, wonder how many races will go to a Nicholls yard. One that I will be on as I love this horse is GRENDISAR, won me a fair few quid last season and I think he will do again this year. Loves it around here at Lingers and can bag win number 4 on the bounce.
3.35 Cheltenham - Robin Of Locksley- 11/1 ew A big scopey horse who is made for chasing and anything he does over hurdles is a bonus- but is highly thought of by his stable and they say he has a big handicap in him over hurdles tho! Ran a decent run on his comeback when third to midnight shot but now has the hood And a tongue tie up which should have postive effect plus the benefit of the run he is a huge price
Cheltenham looks like it could be a bookies benefit tomorrow with handicaps galore so I'll stick to Naas! Naas 1.25 Acapella Bourgeois 10/3 Rare to see a beginners chase packed with 19 runners but here is one and I think Sandra Hughes' strapping unit can really scale the heights now over fences. I think the trip will catch out the jolly. Naas 12.25 Blast of Koeman 10/3 (3/1 still available) Chased home the mighty INVITATION ONLY who is favourite for the Neptune on his last start, this looks a big old price on that form. Been on a decent run of it this last while hopefully I'll continue it with these!
Spot on about Blast of Koeman. Lump on. Probably the best bumper horse in Ireland last year not to have won a race.... yard are super confident
I backed Blast Of Koeman myself about 1 hour ago! We're all doomed lads on a positive note though, the money is coming and the yard very seldom leave their briefcases behind
Bumper looks good at Chelts not a tip but talking to Henry Brooke has gutted to miss Irish Roe thinks the world of her. Glee picks up ride !!! and he's over then moon Stay Frosty xx
Interesting paddy Brenan goes to Uttoxeter for the bumper on fergal o briens Benechenko, a race they won a couple years ago - with Gunner fifteen ,
1.50 Cheltenham- Doctor Harper - 12/1 Best handicapped horse of the whole day (except for my selection above) aslong as he jumps the first couple well he will be exceptionally hard to be was very well backed at the festival and hit the first jump hard which mucked the whole race up
Agree with this Oddy- a convincing winner of this might mark themselves out as a Triumph contender. As we know, there are usually some late bloomers that appear for that race but this looks a lovely contest for the time of year.
Could be a good day for Colin Tizzard with Thistlecrack hopefully putting in a nice display in the novices chase. In the first grade 3 handicap at 1.50 I really like the chances of Tizzard's Fourth Act who ran a cracker on seasonal debut in the Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot, finishing a fine 4th behind Anton. His run that day suggested the step up in trip here will really suit him and he is typical of a Tizzard chaser who has benefitted from the trainer's patience.
12.40 - Defi Du Seuil - Hobbs won this 2 years ago with Golden Doyen. He won in a canter first time up and doesnt have to take a penalty for this. The horses in behind obviously haven't done much since but the visual impression he made was enough for me. If there was 5 runners in the 1.15 i would have had a bet on Marinero e/w. Beat a head behind Monksland is very good form, with that horse running a nice race before falling LTO but no point playing in a 4 runner race against the mighty Thistlecrack. 1.50 - Fourth Act - Hate to sponge Pricewise but this horse is crying out for a step up, full brother to Theatre Act will get the trip no bother. He ran 3miles for first time on reappearance and a prep run looks ideal for this marathon trip. 2.25 - Taquin Du Seuil - I think Jonjo wins this regardless, i think he has the 2 best handicapped horses in the race. Taquin has always looked like needing a trip but deemed quick enough to compete in Vatour's Ryanair last year on ground too quick for him, finishing a creditable 6th. He had a pipe opener over hurdles and was kept miles out the back before finishing like a train and not quite getting there. His last and only other handicap run over fences was last year off 152 in which he won easily over a shorter trip. For all this is his 3rd season chasing he still looks relatively unexposed. More of That has obvious claims off 152, considering his hurdle rating was 169 and he looks just as comfortable over the bigger obstacles. Bled in the RSA last year and still managed 3rd, if he is fit and ready i can't see him out the top 3. 1.40 Uttox - Bun Doran - Tracker horse for me. Looks a chaser all over and another 1 of these that anything over hurdles is a bonus. Runs here off 135 and with another summer on his back and the yard in red hot form hoping he can take this. Lucky 15 on the main 4 selections for me.
Morning all Some of my selections have already been tipped but here goes 12.40 first up East Indies for Gary Moore by authorised a stallion who seems to produce very few but good nh horses. 1.50 Alvarado stays all day in these conditions cd winner 2.25 double shuffle ticks all the boxes and Thomas crapper could produce a big performance at a price 3.00 so fine and Corrin wood off a feather weight with the jockey I rate Bridget Andrews who takes off 3, which leads me to 3.35 robin of locksley Cheers.
