Cracking debut so far by young Hameed..classic cover driver and good all round technique. Useful toss to win.
Donald Duck in the Whitehorse, what next?you thought the refugee crisis was bad here you wait till the rich yanks start flooding in here
No doubt there will be lots of democrats out protesting in Wisconsin, along the lines of "Well I couldn't be arsed to vote, but I never thought he would win. Can we have another election?"
Not at all surprised. I took 5/1 on Trump to win a few weeks back. My only regret now was not taking the 13/2 available at 1am this morning! Brexit, now Trump. What odds on Marie Le pen running France a year from now! disaster...
I've been rewatching The West Wing (for about the millionth time) the last few weeks, trying to convince myself that this is what politics should be like. I'm genuinely concerned for the immediate future, particularly on women's rights in the USA. It is not out of the realms of possibility that Roe v Wade (US abortion law) could be repealed - a Republican President, Republican House, Republican Senate and an empty seat on the Supreme Court... I'm so sad that my daughter is growing up in a world where one of the most powerful leaders in the world believes it is acceptable to insult women based on their looks and that has admitted to sexually assaulting women.
Oh I feel for rainer. Could have made an absolute killing. His strategy was spot on but I doubt anyone would have stuck that one out to the end. Just like Brexit (12/1 on the day and still won). Bookies seem to have no idea
Wasn't going to comment, but I must say that, after working the last 25-years of my working career with expatriate Americans, the ones I knew (friends and colleagues) were not, repeat not, rednecks. I did come up against rednecks on my many visits to the U.S., but most of all in a short offshore contract in Jamaica, when the whole bloody thing with the contractors was staffed by 'domestic' U.S. personnel from the Gulf of Mexico operations. Found so many of them absolutely despicable, and, quite often, as thick as two planks. Was damn glad to get the hell out of the place (no disrespect to Jamaica) when the job finished. Made damn sure I worked with true expats after that, totally different breed.
I have a lot of dealings with Kentucky based racing folk and they are a VERY conservative bunch. There's always a lot of "we're blessed by the Lord", etc. When I visited Lexington about 10 years ago I was taken for dinner at the Lexington Country Club, an old plantation house. The waiting staff were exclusively black and it just left me feeling very uncomfortable with the atmosphere. Driving around the area there was a lot of poverty - little wooden shacks that were obviously someone's home but looked more like something out of Little House on Prairie. Trump has tapped into something, there's no doubting that, but I just cannot understand how someone who has never held an elected office in his life, not even Chairman of the local PTA, can simply be granted so much power. At least over here you know the Leader of the main parties have served some time as MPs and in Cabinet posts (Corbyn aside!) and understand how politics work.
Maybe "understanding how politics work" is part of the establishment's problem (lobbying, bribery, blackmail) - at least that's how many of the electorate see it. I think he'll be a great President if he can get America focussed on America again, not poking their noses in here, there and everywhere. US foreign policy over the last 50 years has done very little for world peace. The idea of him seeing Putin as an ally is also positive. Despite what he said about women (or is reported to have said), 42% of them still voted for him. http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us...6-37899679&link_location=live-reporting-story
I wonder how President Trump will handle the South China Sea problem? Last February, US Pacific Command head, Admiral Harry Harris, told lawmakers that China was militarizing the South China Sea, after reports that China had deployed an advanced surface to air platform on the Paracel Islands. Since then, the US has sent the carrier John C. Stennis to wave the flag in the South China Sea. She was supported by the cruisers Antietam and Mobile bay. The destroyers Chung - Hoon and Stockdale were in attendance. Since then, according to two defence officials, the destroyers Spruance, Momsen and Stethem have all patrolled just outside the 12 mile limit of the Spratley Islands and Scarborough Shoal. The carrier Ronald Reagan, two cruisers and four destroyers have also done time there this year. The Virginia class sub Mississippi has also made it's presence known in the area. There is a clear case of brinkmanship developing here. Add Japan's fears to the mix, factor in President Trump, and who knows where we'll end up?
That's just baffling to me! At the risk of sounding like a raging feminist, I'd say 90% of women know what it is like to have a man say something sexually suggestive to them and/or be touched in a manner that they found intimidating/inappropriate. Certainly in talking to my female friends not a single one has never been groped/touched inappropriately in a bar or club or had some sexual comment made towards them be it at work or in the street by a stranger. It's not got anything to do not being politically correct or dressing it up as finding women attractive and wanting to express it, or thinking that what they are doing is in some warped way a compliment, it is a power trip to intimidate and belittle women/girls. To vote for someone who essentially appears to embody that way of thinking is beyond my comprehension I'm afraid.
I agree Princess, and please don't think I was trying to belittle the issue. I just find it kind of a damning indictment on Hilary, that all these women preferred to vote for Trump, rather than her.
Aww, I give you more credit than that Oddy! You're right though, it is looking more and more like the Democrats should have gone with someone else. I'm not convinced Bernie could have beaten The Donald as he is just too "left" for the majority of America (though I'm sure he'd be considered a centrist over here!), but pretty much any other Democrat without the baggage that Hillary had... There's already talk of a campaign to get Michelle Obama to run in 2020, now I could see her as President and a very good one at that.
My mother-in-law, who was a small child when Hitler was in power, reckons Trump has that same magnetism that Der Führer had - apparently women would often swoon or feint in his presence.
I cannot see Trump delivering on much of his trash talk because the only way he is going to get Mexico to pay for the wall is if he invades them. He could hire some Mexican bricklayers but they would want paying to do the job... Kind of ironic that a country so in love with the rubbish that is reality television has now turned itself into a reality TV show! Had to laugh when I heard at lunchtime that, after congratulating Trump on his victory, the Chinese then used the State broadcaster to tell their people just what a joke Western democracy was and how much better off they are with the Communist Party.
Wow, this really is a divided country. I am not at all sure if he will be even a mediocre president, his garbage talk during the campaign would have made Al Capone blush. Many of his supporters were a nasty, snarling bunch of white racists: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...s-los-angeles-california-oregon-a7407521.html
Did you hear the man in the audience shout "Kill Obama" during Trump's victory speech? That's the kind of person Trump has pursued. Anyone watching The Last Leg? Adam Hills just had a fantastic rant about it all. I'll see if I can find a copy of the video to post on here.
