So then. Donald it is. Who'd have thought it? At least the UK aren't the laughing stock anymore.

Also, silver lining is that my now US based daughter was so convinced that Trump would win that she wanted to put a bet on - the only problem is that there is no online gambling in the US. She still has her UK bank account etc, so I set up an account for her on Bet365 and she puts £800 on it at about 4-1 plus £200 as a free bet at about the same . Whilst I was there I logged in as me and did £100 at the same :)

She now has about £5,500 in her account and I have about £550. I should thank her as I never thought he would win. She can't take out the bonus part of about £1000 until she bets £200 (the same as the free bet) on something else (so effectively the winnings from that part is £800). She has put it on Scotland to beat England at 8-1!!!!! She is so jammy, she'll probably win that too!

I despair of ANYONE who put their X against his name irrespective of their sex or creed, nobody that treats women the way he does and castigates a whole religion because of a tiny minority should be running one of the most powerful countries on Earth, Imps.

I didn't vote for him nor support him. I just am one of those around the western world tired of hearing about globalisation when in reality companies are profiteering. They move their workforces to make more money. The price doesn't come down any, just they make more profit suddenly or in the case of Dysons the price still goes up.

    Here is Tim Farron's reaction

He wrote: "Liberal values of moderation, freedom, respect for the rule of law, openness and concern for one another can no longer be taken for granted.

"In the United States last night, those values were defeated.

"But those values are vital if we are to live together in peace, prosperity and freedom."

Spot on Tim!! These values need reawakening now more than ever increasing surge of right-wing populism.

    I'm with Richie - double :emoticon-0119-puke:

I am getting more of a taste for dark chocolate (only 75% so far) as I get older and it helps that I can't eat more than 1 little block of an evening.

They are either racists, bigots etc etc or they are enabling a guy that is a racist, bigot, etc etc, so both just as bad. Even blacks and latinos and women can be racist, misogynist against their own kind.

Can we not try to paint it any other way.

Not really. It looks like the states he flipped he did so mostly by getting new people to vote (plus the GOP suppressing minority votes).

It presents an interesting scenario for Republicans now. One that's really been playing out for awhile, but Trump put it front and center. He won by getting the maximum leverage out of a fairly rapidly shrinking group. So they have to decide whether they can reverse the shrinking via booting illegal immigrants/strict immigration policy/screwing over blacks and latinos. Or they can try to broaden their appeal... which will be difficult as Trump just spent his whole campaign alienating them in favor of his base.

Had Cruz or Kasich or some other GOP candidate won, he would have gotten less support from the rural white crowd, but more from the white college educated and urban. The GOP would still be faced with the same problem of having to shrink the opposition, or expand their base, but it would have bought them more time. They could have done it more slowly, and more stealth-like.

But now it's just kind of open war.

He already is an advisor. He was on TV last night where it said Nigel Farage MEP - Donald Trump Advisor.

He said he would like to be the US ambassador to the EU when asked last time........a few weeks ago I think.

It's a sad day, and I'm as scared as most that Trump has been elected to the White House. We can but hope that the checks and balances in the US governmental system constrain his most dangerous policies and those of his party.

That guy needs to read some Crane Britton. It isn't 99% of the world taking on the elite 1%. It's the 75-99% bracket seeing a cap on their mobility. It's a bourgeois revolution.

Revolutions never are the 99%. Many will just say "meh" it will make no difference. Many outside of the 1% will still be happy with their lot and others just watch on.

There are always people that "inspire" revolutions and I would suggest it is far too large at the moment for people to just keep on saying "tough luck" and ignoring that the problem is there, whether it is economically beneficial or not. He is right. Something benefitiing the economy is no good if many are not seeing any benefit at all and it is very dangerous just to ignore people and say they are wrong.

Does CNN also have some demographic breakdowns for how many autistic people voted for Trump? They have all sorts of demographic breakdowns it seems.
