Fair enough fella, I understand your take... I'd have voted clinton, purely to keep trump out! I'm not sure he's a guy who listen much to other people so my hope is that his own party will act as censor by voting against any especially loony ideas he has.
The reasons that Brexit happened and Trump succeeded was because many people believed lies and half truths that were paid for, and you quote a fine example.
Come on.... lies were flying around on both sides. There isn't a guilty or innocent party on that side. Where the USA were concerned, far more lies thrown at Trump, the press were 100% in the Clintons camp

I think people all over the world are sick of current politicians. In Oz we have the usual two plus one to vote for and voting is compulsory here, so people who are disillusioned with the two major parties tend to vote for the minor ones because they must, consequently we have a right hash of "cross benchers" in our senate that the majors must cuddle up to if they want to get anything done. I think people voted for Trump because he spoke out against the status quo and addressed what the disenfranchised people want and didn't spout a party line. I think the guy is a dick, but the yanks have brought this upon themselves. However, i can see the rot spreading to other countries same as Brexit.
