For me, Kelly would start ahead of Johnston. He is by far the better defender and some of his runs past Downing on the wing against Valencia were inspiring.

He seems better on the wing than he does in the middle, but with all this talk of a new Left Back and maybe even getting a New Centre Half with a couple of expensive options in the press, I fear that Kelly might get pushed back, and I just don't want to see that, as much as some of these names appear inviting, I feel it is important to let Kelly shine.

It's certainly going to be interesting this year. Johnson can't afford to get injured, anyway.

It's nice to see such healthy competition.

I say Johnson LB Kelly RB. As Johnson is better than Aurellio.

There is going to be competition for places and thats going to be a good headache for Kenny to have...and its not just the midfield.

i dont think we need another cb unless we get rid of soto, i think agger should take danny wilson under his wing as they are both very similar players, i have noticed not many liverpool fans rate wilson but i believe he can become a brilliant premiership cb. As for kelly he deserves to be in the side so i believe he shall be

I really rate Kelly as well. Hopefully he can keep progressing. Regarding him and Johnson, having competition in positions is a good thing. Can see Kelly being moved into the centre-back position in the years to come.

Kelly is obviously going to get games this year, either as a RB or CB. Personally I'd be looking at his development as a CB as its an area I really worry about. Our central defence is aging and injury prone, with Flano coming through at fullback and possible signing of Enrique would give Kenny a chance to try Kelly as a CB in a few games.

Skrtel and Agger aren't ageing or injury prone.
I do believe that we need one more centre back, because we cannot depend on Soto. He's a liability. He was on for a short spell yesterday and I was ****ting myself with the thoughts he may **** up. Thankfully the biggest threat he posed was at the other end,he created the second goal for thr Dirkmeister.

If you don't think Agger is injury prone you need your head testing!

Agger is extremely injury prone he's only managed 93 apps in 6yrs.
Skrtel I'll grant you is neither but I'm still not too confident in him

Skrtel has come on leaps and bounds since Kenny has been appointed manager, and Steve Clarke is working on him. Under Hodgson Skrtel had a habit of creating problems for himself by passing the ball back to Pepe as he hadn't the confidence to bring it out of defence Now he's playing the ball out like Agger and he's dribbling in the opposition penalty area. Thats confidence. I reckon he's going to be the 2008/2009 season Martin Skrtel.

I agree about Skrtel. He cut out a lot of the mistakes that he was making previously. As long as it's Skrtel and Agger or Carragher & Agger then we should be fine. I think if Carragher & Skrtel were together they may resort to both going long and neither are very quick.

I think Kelly is going to be like Carragher. Start at RB learn everything you need to about positional play and then move into the middle within the next few years and take over from Carragher. Exactly what Carragher did with Henchoz and Hyypia.
