I'm staggered at the fact that you can't accept that he might have been faking it in the past. What possibly element of his being strikes you as being 'liberal', really?

I don't need to. Regardless of how things may be today, you seem like the kind of person who understands what conservatism is really all about...

I'm staggered by the fact you can't accept he's faking it now. I'm open to the possibility that he is genuinely a racist bigot but I think it's a charade for the most part. What strikes me as him being liberal is his past views on social issues, his support of the Democrats and his strong condemnation and criticism of the Republicans under Romney as being too hard and 'mean-spirited' (his exact words) on immigration.

    Who's being hoodwinked now?

Politicians as a group are liars and opportunists. They generally know nothing of the 'working man' at all or care about them in the slightest.

The vast majority of them across all the major parties are utter arseholes.

True conservatism as described by Edmund Burke is very different to the current strain of conservatism in the West. Classical liberalism is very different to the predominant form of liberalism today. Conservatives and liberals in 2016 are closer to each other than socialism is to liberalism. Modern conservatives and liberals are capitalists, liberals are reformists who peddle the bullshit claim of 'capitalism with a human face'. Liberals today are more progressive than conservatives on social issues, largely due to identity politics; when it comes to economics and class consciousness they're as backwards and reactionary as conservatives.

The reality is probably a bit of both - he fakes whatever he needs to, when it suits. And he's clearly a massive, obnoxious ****ing ****.

Oh yeah, he's definitely a bully and an arsehole. I just question whether he's genuinely a racist bigot or even a social conservative. It appears to me he's acting to secure votes.

Why does he need to 'act' like a racist bigot when he'll obviously get the votes of those people anyways? He could kill a baby at one of those rallies and they'd still vote for him. They ain't gonna vote for Hillary, no chance.

It's not an act. He is a racist misogynst bigot.

Because he had to be nominated as the Republican candidate first? Have you totally forgotten about the primaries? He had to beat genuine conservatives like Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Marco Rubio to be the Republican nominee and considering those three are established Senators, he had to out-do them on issues like immigration. He's a misogynist but so is Bill Clinton and people still consider him a liberal. When it comes to race and immigration, I believe it's all an act to secure votes. He was strongly in favour of progressive immigration reform in the past and urged Obama to naturalise undocumented immigrants as citizens. His charade was started during the primaries, not after he became the Republican nominee.

Yeah, it did start in the primaries - but he pushed it even more after becoming the nominee.

If it was an act, why is he pushing it even more than before? Surely he'd either push it the same as before or back slightly off if it was an act.

Like I said, it isn't an act. The man's a racist piece of ****.

Why would he back off slightly and risk alienating the supporters he's won? He'd be accused of backtracking by genuine conservatives, which he doesn't want as believe or not, he's gaining momentum. He's using it as a stick to beat Clinton with, claiming she's soft on immigration.

You're a journalist ffs, use some critical thinking.

He didn't completely go back on it. He originally said he'd ban all Muslims entering, then he later said he'd impose a ban from countries in the Middle East with a history of harbouring terrorism. Hardly a complete backtrack. He hasn't backtracked at all on the bollocks about the Wall.

If anything, doesn't it prove my point that the guy doesn't have a single conservative principle? He's merely pandering to anyone who he think will vote for him.

Even if it's not an act, I'd describe him as a traditionalist rather than any of those things.

And after all Hull City fans, and in particular the Allam out brigade, should understand all about tradition.
