In his press conference today the Gaffer said that "all my players are ready for this game". So no change to the team? Well, maybe one little one for me, which won't come as a surprise and hopefully doesn't need an explanation: ..........................Button................ ..Fredericks..Kalas..Sigurdsson..Sessegnon.. ......................McDonald.. ................Johansen... .....Piazon........Cairney...Aluko.. .......................Martin...
Would love to get a result against them for once, having said that anything other than the previous few capitulation should be an improvement.
We've really got to build on that last win. I agree with your team selection Cottager and I am feeling positive we can get something this time from them. Normally I'm either at the match or glued to Gentleman Jim but Saturday and was so busy I forgot the time - I just could not believe the 5-0 scoreline when I eventually looked it up on my phone. I'm not going Friday either so we have a chance !
It's the old saying 'Why Change A Winning Team ?' I think Brentford will be stronger in defence than Huddersfield so we'll have to take the chances when they come along. It will depend on Cairney being at his best, and how we stop Josh McEachran. I'm a lot happier with Kalas back in defence but would Madl be a better partner than Sigurdsson. I'm hoping Ream will be kept on the bench and Sessegnon put at fullback instead of the erratic Malone.
I think anyone from the starting eleven against Huddersfield who gets left out would be entitled to feel hard done by. I know Malone is, as Super Brian says, erratic, but I thought he had a decent game last weekend and deserves to hold his place for this one. Overall, I prefer Sessegnon, but I'd leave things exactly as they are tonight and see if we can keep up the momentum from last weekend.
Talking about erratic, the man in the middle tonight is Tim Robinson please log in to view this image We've encountered Robinson a few times. The most recent was the 1-1 home draw this season with Burton and his reluctance to stop their time wasting was not appreciated. Last year he was in charge of the 3-1 trouncing of QPR at theirs, when he booked Burn and O'Hara. And, the 2-1 home win in April against MK Dons. Nando, Stearman, Tunnicliffe and Dembele went in his book that day. His discipline record for last season was 149 yellows and 9 reds in 43 games. This season he's well on the way to surpassing that with 64 yellows and 3 reds in 13 games. His top score, so far, in one game was Newcastle v Wolves in September; with 8 yellow (5 for Wolves) cards and 1 red for the home team being brandished.
Unchanged from last weekend, right thing to do after such a good win and performance. On another squad related note, whats happened to Kebano and Jozabed? Are they just so much out of favour they cant even make it on the bench? Dont think I've seen either part of a matchday squad for a while.
1-0 up at half time - Sone Aluko following up a shot saved by the Brentford keeper bundled it into the net. This is how to play Championship football; everybody working hard, pressing for the ball, tackling and still finding time for some good football. We were so on top in the first half and but for poor crossing/shooting would be well ahead. Then the game levelled out a bit but we were strong in defence. With Brentford getting into the game it actually created more space and we had a couple of really good breaks out, including the one 5 minutes before half time in which Aluko scored. Not sure who is my MOTM so far but midfield trio of McDonald, Johansen and Cairney all in there. Some might be pleased to hear, so is Malone! The stream I'm watching is not perfect and definitely spoiled by a Brentford person commentating but here's the link if you want to try it: http://tvtoss.me/pages/player.php?ch_id=385071796&ctd=17&t=Live Today Sports
With a dip of the left shoulder Tom Cairney seals it in injury time. 2-0 We were under it a bit in the second half but the defence and especially at set pieces - Brentford had a whack of corners - was superb. Credit to the CBs therefore and how well we stayed organised and disciplined. Another clean sheet so not to be sniffed at then ! Despite the Brentford pressure we were still dangerous on the break and oh, Sone Aluko; he could have had a fair few in this game before taking a knock on the knee and eventually coming off. There was a sense of determination by all the lads throughout. However, the key to the win was that we didn't panic - sure there was the odd hoof but, unlike games of old, it was when necessary and at the other times we played out sensibly. I was on the point of offering up Scott Malone as the MOTM for his strong running in the second half. But for his overall play and the coolness of that feint to score, it just has to be Tom Cairney.
How has Aluko done for you guys overall? He looked good tonight aside from a couple of iffy finishes. He had the potential to be great for us, but injuries and erratic end product stopped that.
What an unbelievable performance best I've seen in seasons and if can can play like that consistently we will have a chance of making the play offs. Aluko has been decent for us and in occasions has looked unplayable, he does seem like a confidence player and not overly consistant but the last few weeks his confidence has definately been high. Anyone want to swap Jazz back for Malone????
True Cookie. His "end product" that Hull 3 asked about has been excellent in the last two games; so far as link up play and assists go. However, doubt if few would disagree that his shooting is "erratic". Strange really because when he's running with the ball he has terrific balance and awareness, yet when it comes to shooting he's often off-balance and/or lacking composure. Last night for instance he created absolute havoc in the Brentford defence and could/should have had a bagfull not just one goal. You can see examples of the good and the not so good of his play in this link to the highlights of the game. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2016/november/05/match-action-brentford
That was a terrific performance last night. She once again we have to stop for the international break. The players look confident and this is shown in their play. Brentford would have been on a high following their away win at QPR, no that they are any great shakes, but we pressed them and outclassed them in all areas. Makes a weekend so much more enjoyable.
I can't express how happy I was on Friday night. I took a fair bit of flak for our limp showing against QPR, so our performance was much appreciated. For me the biggest revelation of late has been Stefan Johansen. After quite an ignominious debut, he has really added some energy to our midfield and has looked very good in the last two games. I also hope that this settles the 'Aluko in the middle' debate. I know he signed for us because he wanted to play in the middle, but he is just so good running in from the wing (not to mention allowing Cairney to sit in the middle). That tactical change, along with the move to just one holding midfielder, has paid big dividends in recent weeks. Curse the international break!
To be fair I thought the performance against QPR was a good one and we would have won that game 9 times out of 10 even my two Rangers mates came into work laughing admitting they committed day light robbery on us! Other than a few really bad performances I think we have played very well so far and should be higher up the table. I can think of a few games we deserved more points QPR, Burton, Leeds, now I know most fans can point to games they deserved more but normally there are also games you get more than you deserved to even it out a bit but I honestly can't think of one.
Completely agree. To be honest, the fact that QPR were so poor and still won makes the whole thing worse!
