Site for the new concert arena, really disapointed they've decided to plough on with an inadequate 3500 capacity, it'll never attract the sort of acts they're hoping it will.

3,500 is ideal, ever heard the phrase learn to walk before you run?

So when does Hull start to run? When we're all in the bone yard probably.

Let's see if they can regularly secure high cailbre artists and sell out events first, it hasn't been done in this city for a long time.

Leeds have only just got their arena and they have a much better supported music scene than ours.

I think we'll struggle to get decent bands to play at such a small venue. Especially when there's bigger venues in Leeds and Sheffield.

Leeds already has the o2 Academy (Used to be the Town and Country) and the new Arena.

    Sheffield has the arena.

We've gone far too small given our heritage with musicians and bands.

Even if we had a venue that held, for example, 10,000, bands still wouldn't come to Hull. It's a shame but it's always been like it. Promoters and record labels don't see the commercial benefits of coming to Hull, they would rather stick to the central circuit of the UK.

And you can see why - no nice hotels to stay in, lack of top quality restaurants, small travel to population to aim at. 3500 is about right.

The city isn't big enough to support an arena, the proposed venue is the right size.

Its the right size my hope is that attracts the bands/artists that usually go to Brid Spa.
Also a new 160+ hotel will be built on the site.

    The right size<laugh><laugh>

Hull Arena has a capacity of 3,750. The new venue has a capacity of 3,500.

Why didn't we just save the cash and use that instead? Ridiculous having two similarly sized venues.

I'm surprised at the responses on here. Too much small town mentality. Have a look at various venues up and down the country and most have access to a variety of different sized venues.

No, I've been to quite a few concerts at the arena and they were actually very good. No worse than anywhere else I have been. In fact Beautiful South at the Arena many years ago was excellent. Stop talking out of your arse!

Are you talking about performances or the facility itself? Anyone - anyone - who thinks the existing arena is befitting as a concert / event arena is just about as wrong as it is possible to be.

It's a fact, promoters won't bring their acts to the Arena because the sound and facilities are so ****.

It will be demolished soon anyway, it's a **** ice arena and an even worse music venue.
