Jack Grimmer was back in London on Saturday as he helped Shrewsbury Town to a 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon. The Dons took an early lead through Lyle Taylor’s strike, but the visitors were level within a minute of the second half when Ian Black found the net from 25 yards. Ivan Toney was sent off late on for the Shrews, but they held on to claim the point which moved them up to 21st in the Sky Bet League One standings.

Cameron Burgess also played 90 minutes but was unable to prevent Oldham Athletic from losing 2-0 at home to Swindon Town. A goal in each half from Jonathan Obika and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill did the damage, as the Latics dropped below Shrewsbury into 22nd.

George Williams made a cameo appearance in MK Dons’ 4-1 victory at Fleetwood Town. A Ryan Colcough strike either side of Dean Bowditch’s penalty put the visitors firmly in control of proceedings, although the Fishermen did pull one back through Bobby Grant. Colcough secured his hat-trick in stoppage time to put the icing on a win that moved Dons into the top half of the table.

North of the border, Larnell Cole came on in the 87th minute of Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s 3-1 home win over Dundee. A Lonsana Doumbouya effort and Greg Tansey penalty had put Caley in charge of the fixture, an advantage they extended through Liam Polworth not long after half-time. Nicky Low reduced the deficit three minutes before Cole’s introduction, but Inverness held on for the three points that moved them up to eighth in the Scottish Premiership.

A 4-0 defeat at Solihull Moors didn’t tell the full story for Magnus Norman and Southport in the Vanarama National League last night. He was in magnificent form in the first half, making a plethora of top drawer saves (5 in as many minutes at one point) to ensure the sides went into the break level. But the home side’s pressure told after the restart, as an Akwasi Asante hat-trick and Omari Sterling-James effort earned them the win.

Magnus was also in goal for them on Saturday when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Bromley. The visitors went in front when Adam Cunningham converted a cross by former Fulham man Joe Anderson. Jordan Higgs doubled the advantage, while Jordan Lussey pulled one back in the second half. The two defeats have left Southport sitting second bottom in the standings.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Jack Grimmer played the full 90 minutes as Shrewsbury Town drew 1-1 at home to Swindon Town. John Goddard headed the visitors into an early lead, but Ivan Toney equalised a minute before half-time. Gary Deegan was sent off late on for the Shrews after picking up a second yellow card, and the point sees his side remain 22nd in Sky Bet League One.

Jack also featured for the duration of their 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United in the Checkatrade Trophy yesterday.

At the weekend, Cameron Burgess was given 90 minutes for Oldham Athletic as they were beaten 2-0 at Boundary Park by MK Dons, eho had George Williams as an unused substitute. Ben Reeves and Kieran Agard netted either side of half-time to move Dons up to ninth, while Oldham slipped to the bottom of the table.

They had better fortunes in the cup three days later, though, winning 2-0 at Fleetwood Town, with Cameron again playing the full game.

Finally, in Scotland, Larnell Cole came on for the final quarter of an hour of Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s 1-1 draw at Hamilton Academical. Alexandre D'Acol put the hosts in front, but Liam Polworth scored a 93rd minute equaliser for Caley to earn a point. They remain eighth in the Scottish Premiership.

Magnus shines again, but .... still no win!

In the Vanarama National League, Magnus Norman saved a penalty in Southport’s 2-1 defeat at Guiseley. Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half, but it was the home side who went in front soon after the break through Jake Cassidy. Southport equalised through Jamie Allen, but Michael Rankine won it late on, although the striker failed to add to his tally when Norman kept out his penalty.

Not a lot better either for Jack Grimmer who played 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent Shrewsbury Town from slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Bradford City. Nicky Law broke the deadlock in the first half, and Filipe Morais would have doubled the lead soon after if it weren’t for some crucial last ditch defending by Grimmer. But the Bantams had the result sewn up deep into stoppage time at the end of the game, when Haris Vuckic netted from the penalty spot after Daniel Devine had been felled in the area.

The result saw Shrewsbury drop to second bottom in Sky Bet League One.

One of the sides that moved above them was Cameron Burgess’ Oldham Athletic, who won 2-1 at Gillingham. Cody McDonald put the Gills in front with just 10 minutes played, but substitute Freddie Ladapo restored parity with his first touch 20 minutes after the restart. And the Latics – for whom Burgess played the full match – claimed just their second league victory when Ryan Flynn slotted into an empty net to move them up to 21st in the standings.

Magnus Norman helped Southport reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, as they beat Chester 1-0 in their final qualifying match. Declan Weeks scored the only goal of the game after 33 minutes.

That means, as well as Magnus our other lads George Williams, Cameron Burgess and Jack Grimmer will be in the FA Cup 1st round draw tonight.

Unfortunately the weekend results didn't go very well for the two of those others that played:

Jack Grimmer played the full 90 minutes as Shrewsbury Town were beaten 3-2 at Walsall, in a game which saw both sides finish with 10 men. Amadou Bakayoko put the Saddlers in front only for Oliver Lancashire to restore parity soon after, although Kieron Morris did put them back in front before the break. Junior Brown equalised for Shrewsbury for the second time in the game just before the hour mark following a mistake by former Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, but they then had Ryan McGivern sent off for a second bookable offence. It looked as though the Shrews would hold on for a point, but Erhun Oztumer struck late on to secure a victory for the hosts, who then had Bakayoko sent off at the death.

The defeat left Town sitting second bottom in Sky Bet League One, a place below Cameron Burgess' Oldham Athletic who had no better luck. The centre-back played the entirety of his team’s match, as they were beaten 2-0 at Bolton Wanderers, with a Zach Clough goal in either half doing the damage.

Home ties in the 1st round for all the guys:

Jack Grimmer (Shrewsbury) take on Barnett
Cameron Burgess (Oldham) fight it out with Doncaster Rovers
Georgie Williams (MK Dons) see Geordie village boys Spennymoor Town
and Magnus Norman (Southport) have a derby (as the crow flies anyway) against Fleetwood Town

Magnus Norman got the Official and social media MOTM awards after his outstanding performance on Saturday. He saved a penalty in Southport’s 1-1 draw at home to Sutton United and made numerous top drawer saves. Andrai Jones had given the hosts a slender half-time lead, one which remained intact when Norman brilliantly denied Nicky Bailey from the spot 10 minutes after the restart. But Sutton were awarded another penalty soon after, and this time Jamie Collins made no mistake from the spot.

The draw was enough to move Southport off the foot of the Vanarama National League table.

In Sky Bet League One, there were home defeats for both Cameron Burgess and Jack Grimmer, as Oldham Athletic were beaten 2-0 by Bristol Rovers, and Northampton Town left Greenhous Meadow with a 4-2 win.

Nothing from the Club but according to Slough Town they've signed Elijah Adebayo on a month loan.

    upload_2016-10-28_17-23-35.jpeg

The 18-year-old has seven appearances for the U23 squad with 1 assist to his name. London born, the young striker signed a new 1-year deal at the end of last season.

Subject to FA clearance, he could make his debut for Slough Town in their FA Trophy clash with Bognor Regis Town tomorrow.

Sticking with Cup games, another young man is getting plaudits from his loan club:

EMIRATES FA CUP | Magnus Norman’s Cup Quest

Goalkeeper Magnus Norman says there is a sense of anticipation in the Southport squad ahead of their Emirates FA Cup first round tie at home to Fleetwood Town. The Sandgrounders renew their rivalry with Fleetwood next Monday, November 7, in front of the live BT Sport cameras at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

At 19, Norman’s performances have belied his teenage years and says Southport should be confident of causing an upset against the team from SkyBet League One,

The FA Cup gives us an extra boost and it gives players even more reason to want to get into the team,” Norman said. “We’re looking good in training and our performances are getting better. Fleetwood are a good team from League One but it’s a local derby and we’ve got to be confident of getting a result. Everyone buzzes about the cup. We won against Chester in the last round and after that there was a great atmosphere in training and around the club."

    Source: http://southportfc.net/emirates-fa-cup-magnus-normans-cup-quest/?

The article went on to sing his praises in recent games:

"Norman has emerged as a key player in Southport’s newly-shaped team since joining on loan from Fulham last month, underlining his importance with a penalty save in the 1-1 draw with Sutton United last Saturday before keeping a clean sheet against York City in the week."

And at the weekend he underlined that importance with a fantastic last minute save which allowed Southend to go home with a 2-1 down at Torquay. A win that takes them out of the relegation zone.

Not so good news for the other lads on loan.

Cameron Burgess played the whole match for Oldham in their 1-0 defeat away to neighbours Rochdale. The loss sees Oldham remain in the relegation zone. Georgie Williams stayed on the bench as MK Dons went down 2-1 away to Sheffied Utd. As did Richard Stearman in Wolves 1-1 draw away to Blackburn.

Larnell Cole didn't feature at all in a thriller that saw Inverness Calley draw 3-3 with Hearts. And Jack Grimmer is still injured. That's two weeks he's been out but their's hopes that he'll be back for the Cup this weekend.

Our Jack just loves the Cup

As you'll have gathered Shrewsbury beat Barnet 3-0.

Also in the hat for Round Two are Oldham Athletic, for whom Cameron Burgess played the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 home victory over Doncaster Rovers. Goals either side of half-time from Ryan Flynn and Billy McKay put the Latics in control of the game, although Donny did pull one back at the death through Liam Mandeville’s penalty.

In the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, Elijah Adebayo played the entirety of Slough Town’s 1-0 home defeat by Hitchin Town. Ben Walster’s free-kick after the interval was the difference between the sides, with the defeat seeing Slough drop down to third in the standings.

And tonight Magnus Norman goes with Southport in the Cup against Fleetwood.

Magnus played a blinder and kept a clean sheet in the game, which ended 0-0. The winners of the replay take on Jack Grimmer's Shrewsbury in the next round.

    Where's Larnell?

"Liam Polworth’s injury could present a first-team opportunity to Caley Thistle’s on-loan star Larnell Cole. Scans on Polworth’s injury – picked up in the 3-0 defeat at Celtic – look set to keep him out for a significant period of time, which could open the door for Cole.

Caley Jags boss Richie Foran has been impressed with Cole’s patience, having had to overcome an achilles injury following his loan move from Fulham. He replaced Polworth at Parkhead and there could well be an opening when Inverness return to league action next weekend."

Not a bad weekend for the lads what played:

Jack Grimmer played the full 90 minutes as Shrewsbury Town climbed off the foot of the Sky Bet League One table with a 2-0 victory over Oxford United. AJ Leitch-Smith gave the hosts a 19th minute lead at Greenhous Meadow, although they had to wait until the eighth minute of stoppage time at the end of the game to make it safe, when substitute Shaun Whalley found the net having run half the length of the pitch. Town now sit 23rd in the standings, five points from safety.

Elsewhere, Cameron Burgess also played the full match as Oldham Athletic drew 0-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon. Both sides had chances to win the contest, but a failure to break the deadlock means the Latics remain 22nd in the League One table.

In the Vanarama National League, Magnus Norman’s Southport won 3-2 at home to Maidstone United. A Jamie Allen brace and Liam Nolan effort put them in control of the game, and they held on for the three points despite responses from Yemi Odubade and Bobby-Joe Taylor. The victory moved Southport up several spots to 18th in the Conference.

Slough Town and Merthyr Town will have to play again in the FA Trophy Second Round Qualifying after drawing 2-2. In this one Elijah Adebayo saw 90 minutes as the Rebels came from two down to force a replay, with Charlie Moone and James Dobson on target.

Mixed fortunes for the lads playing in Cup replays. First the good news. Elijah Adebayo's Slough had a 2-0 victory against Merthyr Town in their FA Trophy replay. Charlie Moone opened the scoring with Simon Dunn adding a second just before half time.

The not so good is that Southport went down 4-1, after extra time, in their replay against Fleetwood. So unfortunately Magnus Norman doesn't get to face Jack Grimmer in the 2nd round of the FA Cup proper. Here's a link to a report and video highlights of the game:

Not yet confirmed by the Club but Ryheem Sheckleford has joined Wealdstone on a short-term loan deal, until January 1st.

    upload_2016-11-18_17-35-43.jpeg

The 19yr old who has come through the Academy ranks has been a regular at right back for the U23s this season. He'll be eligible to join the Stones squad for Saturday’s National League South match at Hungerford Town.

Despite not getting game time Larnell Cole is looking to extend his loan deal at Inverness Calley beyond January, according to the local paper. So far as the guys that did play goes -

Elijah Adebayo struck the winner as Slough Town came from behind to beat Stratford Town 2-1 in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division last night.

please log in to view this image

After Richard Gregory had given the hosts a half-time lead, the Rebels upped their game after the break and equalised when Warren Harris pounced following a long throw, before Adebayo secured all three points moments later with a confident finish. After the game Slough's manager Jon Underwood said, “You’ve got to remember he’s 18, he’s coming from a pro club where you don’t play games like this. It’s a different type of football, people roughing him up. But he kept working and when the chance came with a ball over the top, it was a fantastic touch and finish, and showed his class. So I’m delighted for him because I think that will give him real confidence that he can come into these games, these places, and make a real difference.”

The result moved Slough level on points with second place Chippenham Town in the league.

News just in - so impressed are Slough, they requested and had agreed and extension of Elijah's loan until 2nd January.

    Magnus Norman’s
Southport came from two goals down to draw at Chester. Kane Richards put the home side in front, a lead that James Alabi doubled shortly after the half hour mark. But the Sandgrounders dominated the second period and earned a deserved point courtesy of goals from Andrai Jones and Jamie Allen. The draw keeps Southport sitting 19th in the Vanarama National League.

In Sky Bet League One, Cameron Burgess played the full 90 minutes as Oldham Athletic snatched a 2-2 draw at Vale Park. The Latics had gone in front three minutes after the restart through Oliver Banks, but their lead was quickly cancelled out by Remie Streete. Rigino Cicilia then looked to have won it for Port Vale, but Carl Winchester came off the bench to restore parity in the fourth minute of stoppage time, although Oldham still remain 22nd in the table.

Jack Grimmer also saw 90 minutes, but his Shrewsbury Town side dropped to the bottom of League One with a 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town. Conor McLaughlin opened the scoring and David Ball added a brace in the second half to condemn the Shrews to an 11th league defeat of the season.

And last but not least, wee George Williams came on for the final six minutes of Milton Keynes Dons’ 3-2 home defeat by Chesterfield. Dons briefly threatened a first win in eight league outings after efforts from Daniel Powell and substitute Ryan Colclough had cancelled out Jay O’Shea’s penalty, but Kristian Dennis and Dan Gardner struck soon after to secure victory for the Spireites. MK remain in the relegation zone following the loss.

Magnus Norman was again the MOTM as Southport climbed out of the bottom four in the National League with a 0-0 against Solihul last night. And Elijah Edebayo continued to help Slough's good run with a 2-0 win over Banbury United. They're now only 4 points off the top.
