We'll have to agree to disagree then.

The idea of Trump with his finger on the nuclear trigger is a much more terrifying prospect imo.

There's no guarantees that either will keep their word, but taking them at face value...

Obama's policies have brought us to the brink, and Clinton will pretty much use the same advisers. Clinton has been told by the military that the consequence of her policy in Syria alone would put us at war with Russia. Clinton has said she'd use the nuclear option to defend Israel.

Trump says he'll initiate talks with Russia to discuss a combined approach to tackle the threat of global terrorism.

Why? The US has a careful and thorough approach when it comes to ordering nuclear strikes. It isn't a case of the President ordering a nuclear strike on a Monday morning and the nukes being fired by lunchtime. When the the President orders a nuclear strike, it has to be approved the the Secretary of Defense, else it won't happen. So even if Trump ordered a nuclear strike, the SoD could and most definitely would refuse the order after a meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Clinton on the other hand has specifically said she'll implement a no-fly zone over Syria if she's elected. That means American missiles can shoot Russian jets out of the sky. If a Russian jet is shot down by American missiles, it will be Putin launching the nukes first, not POTUS. Trump's a thoroughly disgusting human being but unlike Clinton who actively wants to provoke Russia, he's proposing improved relations with Russia. As an non-American, I'd prefer the orange racist idiot in charge for four years constantly having his stupid policies rejected by Congress rather than an imperialist warmonger like Clinton bring us into WW3 with a nuclear power like Russia. Don't forget that we're a NATO member state. If Russia and America start exchanging punches, the entire Western world gets caught in the crossfire. Even if nuclear war is avoided, British lads our age could be drafted into NATO forces to fight on the front-lines in the Baltics and Poland. **** that. I'm not a pacifist but there's no way I'm fighting in a war started by Clinton actively pissing off Russia's 21st century Tsar.

If you actually believe any leader in the world today, let alone a President of Amercia, would be 'itching for war with Russia' then you've revealed yourself to be a nut job.

Military officials have already disclosed that Clinton's proposed plan for Syria would bring Russia and America into full-scale conflict.

The only nut jobs are the the Republican and Democrat candidates for President in this election.

Completely agree with this. Like most people on this thread, I wish Bernie Sanders was still in the race. As he isn't, I reluctantly support Trump for the reasons you have stated. Don't tell anyone else though, as you'll immediately get funny looks for daring to consider Trump as a marginally better candidate than Clinton, you racist sexist pig! :emoticon-0127-lipss

If I were American, I'd refuse to vote at all. According to liberals, abstaining to vote is just as bad as voting Trump.

Having anarchist and socialist principles makes you a racist these days, apparently.

I think it would take a lot to antagonise Putin into a full scale conflict. He's not as stupid, evil and psychopathic as our media like to portray him.

Trump is an obnoxious, racist ****, that alone should be the reason people don't vote for him.

    Fortunately, he's going to lose.

It's a sad reflection on the US, that this is the two candidates they've ended up with.

He's an authoritarian leader but like you said, not stupid or 'evil'. He's cold, calculated, ruthless and remarkably intelligent. I personally don't think he wants war with the US, which is why he supports Trump. However, if an American missile shoots down a Russian jet, he'll have to respond. The Russians are a proud people; they won't expect their Tsar to stand idly by whilst the US shoots down their aircraft. He'll respond because he'll feel he has to, not because he personally wants war.

Monty Brewster for the win. Shame Johnson is so useless as you'd think a decent third candidate might have a chance of building momentum this year.

It is, though Sanders' shameful endorsement of the woman he railed against as being corrupt and a Wall Street shill is pathetic. He showed himself to be a spineless **** no different than the rest. He recently tweeted something along the lines of 'if you don't vote for Clinton, you're as bad as Trump' bollocks. There's something really ****ing wrong when candidates feel entitled to votes, rather than work to receive them. One of the most damning indictments of representative democracy.

The chance for the US and the then USSR to engage in a serious nuclear war occurred in 1962 during the Cuban Missile crisis. Nothing eventuated and today's squabbles between the US and Russia are child's play in comparison. Time to move on...

For people that lived through the cold war these are petty squabbles but i suppose for the younger ones its new and worrying.
That is if they can drag their heads out of facebook and actually take any notice of the news.

For now. The Cuban Missile Crisis was only avoided because Kennedy received Khrushchev's telegram in time. The US had prepared the largest invasion force in Florida since D-Day. Syria's a much more unstable situation than Cuba was.

Sanders endorsing Clinton now is a hard one to swallow, all things considered, but it's because he knows what Trump is.

I understand the anger and frustration and rage, but electing a far right bigot is not something the left should become complacent about.

I think Clinton has a poor record, especially with warmongering, but I see her at least as competent and well advised. With Trump, he's taking advice from Roger Stone, Steve Bannan & Alex Jones types. Civilisation cannot be in their hands.

I suppose if Trump does win he's more likely to be literally bumbed by Putin than Hillary would.

Putin is already oiling up his bare chest in readiness to wrestle trump to the ground. He's not confused honest.

It's an interesting point you make about the Left. Liberals want to reform capitalism to make it more 'humane' but liberals aren't leftists; they're moderates or centrists. Some radical leftists like the philosopher Slavoj Zizek believe in left accelerationism and want Trump to be President as it will give people in the West a needed kick up the arse when it comes to challenging neoliberal economics and globalist capitalism in general.
