Perhaps today was another demonstration of how this current group of players flourish in the face of adversity. All of our points this season have come when faced with either disastrous or pretty debilitating circumstances - the presence of which seems to rally the players and activate a grit and determination that we haven't really seen in any of the other games. Is this simply a psychological thing, or do we struggle from Phelan's choices when his hands aren't tied? Either way I'm not sure it's healthy. If we can harness the same mentality game to game with a focus on the wider difficulties that we currently face as a club, we may just have the steel to remain in this league for another year.
We can improve more though, even with these players with someone like Clucas out of position. Some effort was put in during the second half, but that should be something we take for granted. Over the last two years we haven't been able to.
Very true - I'm very disappointed by the international break next week, we could do with the momentum. West Brom have just won as well... all bar Swansea have advanced.
What an unlikely win. Dreadful first period: strikers off injured, goal down within 5 mins (Curse of the Early Goal?) and City flat as owt. Small squad with no strength in depth further depleted but 2 quick goals and we're in control again. Where's the logic? 2 attempts on target and we win, zero attempts by Watford and we lose. Fine margins. Apologies to the national media for not sticking to the script. Vital morale boosting win. Only 2 points behind Leicester, one point behind WHU, Stoke, Palace and Boro. Still five points over Sunderland and Swansea are looking pale about the gills. See you at Sunderland.
The 8 teams above us have all won the same number of games as us. They have just had more drawn games.
