Absolutely. It's a red flashing line with bells, whistles and alarms on it !

It would be economic suicide to step out of the EU common market. It is fundamentally the biggest single issue that will affect the future of the UK

It's taken a 'left wing loonie' to show this country what a sensible approach means.

It's all very well Corbyn making these bold statements, but unless at least 7-8 Tories can be persuaded to vote against their own Gvt, there isn't much he can do to stop it...

Yep, and that's why the House needs to do the right thing for the future of this country and ensure that May and the 3 stooges are not given licence to torch our economy whilst taking us out of the EU.

No total commitment to retaining single market access should equal no bill being passed.

    **** the bigots

It's up to Corbyn to make the sensible argument for access to the single market then. Personally I think the majority of MP's and business leaders will be right behind that message. I don't know the figures, but there were a large number of Tories that were campaigning for remain.

Whist I agree with your sentiments Tobes, my fear is the in-fighting through the parlimentary process could do even more harm to the economy. As it is continually pointed out, the markets don't like uncertainty.

The 4 Sinn Fein MP's turning up reduces that to 4.

I'd rather see a delayed process with some uncertainty if it meant we negotiated to remain part of the EU single market, than crashing ahead into the abyss with a 'full brexit'

I think, hope, that the likes of Ken Clarke could be persuaded to vote against if Thatcher lite and the three ****wits try to push thorough a Brexit with no agreed single market access. But, I'm not sure how much I'd bet in it!..

The damage to the pound is already done, the stock markets being jittery doesn't matter a toss in terms of our long term economic outlook.

Better a period of uncertainty with the right outcome eventually being reached, than a decisive **** up in March.

Ken Clarke has always been very pro Europe. I think given a vote, he would vote to stay in the common market and I think there are a number of Tories that would vote likewise.

Clarke would have no qualms about voting against the government.

It'll be interesting, especially as I'm positive that May's first attempt at a Bill will be nothing more than her 'will of the people' soundbite and next to **** all detail. I can see them collectively kicking that one back at her.

There's no reason why parliament can't vote the bill down and tell her to amend it and come back. That angle might be enough for some Tories to feel empowered enough to make the call.

The long and the short of this, is that May's March deadline simply isn't going to happen. This could be volleyed around the Commons and the Lords for 2 years.

I'm sick of May and her soundbites. 'Brexit means Brexit', 'The will of the people', etc. As they say, the devil is in the detail. And that is up to parliament to decide. As was rightly confirmed by the High Court.

Charles I was executed for trying to railroad the Royal Prerogative over Parliamentary democracy. Just sayin' ....

If May struggles to get her bill through the House and refuse to make the kind of firm commitments that Corbyn is going to insist on. She might decide to call a GE.

I tell you what, if the election was fought with this being the key issue and he used the above as his mainstay, compared to the Tories campaigning on the immigration before the economy angle.

    He might just bloody win!

The rest of Europe will be looking closely at our government, which will in turn very likely dictate there stance towards any negotiations. Do you really think squabbling MP's are going to make that process easier?
Do you think Corbyn finally finding those lumps in the front of his trousers are balls, is really going to help. My preference was to remain, but if we are leaving, let's do a quickly and relatively painlessly as possible, otherwise my fear is that this is going to be a very messy divorce. It's already cost us in terms of GBP.

It's not possible to leave quickly and relatively painlessly. Quickly yes but it will have to be painful as the EU will shaft us royally.
