Kamara has just revealed on Goals on Sunday that Football League managers are apparently going to lobby the Football League for an immediate return for 7 subs, so long as at least 2 of them are under the age of X and have been at the club since the age of Y. Hopefully it goes through, as it would be a case of common sense prevailing. That said, I guess it wouldn't affect us too much. Of our 1st team players, Lallana and Chamberlain would be the only ones to fill the criteria - and we're not exactly going to be leaving either of those on the bench on a regular basis! Still, would at least give a couple of kids a chance.
Did someone say yesterday that Pompey didn't have 5 subs on bench? TBF they got a decent result anyway.
Would like 7 on the bench again, much better and allows for Nige to change the game exactly how he needs to.
I think everyone agrees that reducing the amount of subs is a step backwards and the wrong call from the football league. I appreciate it puts smaller clubs under pressure to fill there bench, but as long as it's agreed that you don't get fined for not filling the bench then I don't see an issue.
I like this idea so teams can produce more youngsters. I don't understand why Pompey don't just put youngsters on the bench to make up the numbers.
i sort of knew a `Lady` 2 years ago whose son was part of the training set up, when Poncemouth where not paying thier staff, they prob lost a lot of youngsters that wished to be part of the set-up, maybe they havent got any youngsters worth even trying
They surely must have some youngsters that would love the experience of just being on the bench. A couple of not good enough players are better than no players...
Substitutes are optional, so teams can name only five (or less) if they wanted to. It was odd the FL decided to get rid of the seven sub rule with that in mind. The seven sub rule will still be used in the cup competitions.
Good excuse for the League committee to get together for a couple of bottles of wine while deliberating again.
