Good thread in the sense I expected the usual Jose bashing from another club's fans but there's been some really fair comments.

Here's my tuppence worth. I actually think Mourinho was affected by his time on the continent. He was on the crest of a wave at Chelsea first time round. He was loved by the British footy media, who were absolutely sychophantic about the rubbish he spouted half the time. He went to Inter and realised very quickly they weren't as gullible and they scrutinised everything about him. Inter had a poor first season, their football was hated by their fans and their press. He won Serie A but this was a league on its knees after the corruption scandal and all of Inter's main rivals had been hit by sanctions. I remember United absolutely wiped Inter away in the CL and Jose shrugged his shoulders. Second season at Inter he turned it on. He got his head down and they won the lot including the CL.

He then goes to Real Madrid. Same thing in his first season. He's hated by the Spanish media (who were in love with Barca and Pep tbf) and he had a poor first season. Under constant pressure and a media witch hunt he became even more cynical and bitter and crossed the line in terms of his behaviour. But in his second season once again he turned it on and won the La Liga against a very good Barca side.

Comes back to Chelsea, happy to be back to a country that loves him, but he carried the psychological baggage of his time in Italy and Spain. He once again had a poor first season. During that time, the media here had also changed their mood towards him. But they didn't have an opportunity to turn on him as he, once again, turned it on in his second season and won the league. HOWEVER, as we know with our lovely press, they love to build someone up, only to sharpen the knives and tear them to shreds later on.

I'm quoting the whole period during his time abroad because I followed him during that time as I followed the leagues there. It was a noteable change in him as a person.

Having said that, I can also categorically say that Mourinho did adapt his footballing style to suit the clubs he managed. Real Madrid for example has a tradition of playing expansive attacking football. Jose did exactly what he always does, which is build from the back, BUT he changed his approach going forward and played the quick, attacking football RM demanded. THAT is what gave me hope when we signed him. And tbf the games against Stoke and Burnley have demonstrated just that.

Unfortunately for us, we've blown hot and cold. We had 37 shots on goal against Burnley (a PL record if I read correctly somewhere), and then just 1 shot on goal 3 days later against Fenerbahce <doh>. The players and Jose need to shoulder the blame together.

Where I blame Mourinho is playing Pogba as an attacking midfielder. He should be playing as a box to box midfielder. Secondly dropping Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Mkhytarian. Thirdly not buying a decent RB and Fonte.

And finally, and most importantly my biggest gripe is this. United was supposedly Jose's dream job, the one he's coveted for so long. I don't know about you fellas, but if I got my dream job, the one I always wanted, I'd be going in full of enthusiasm, with a ****-off big smile across my face. I'd be full of ideas and passionate in my approach to everything. I WANT to see that in Jose. Smile for ****s sake! From day one, I've been sick of the dour press conferences, and sick of the miserable looks standing there on the touchline. SHOW the fans you love your job. Enjoy yourself and revel in being our manager. I think fans would forgive him anything IF he showed that. Because as someone said earlier, he's far too good a manager not to be able to turn it around. He'll get the backing from the fans and the club, but he has to show us he wants to be there and he's enjoying the challenge.

Apologies for the long rant <laugh>

Like the bit about his miserable ramblings pre and post match. I honestly think that the football world here has just had enough of him. Worse still, blaming the players for the loss against Femebache and his reluctance to give Rooney a defined role suggests that he is not quite able to best use what is available to him.

I don't know about the press having had enough. They had Fergie for 26 years, clearly couldn't wait for any opportunity to stick the knife in when they could, BUT he kept winning so they never got very far. The trouble for Mourinho is he's not been winning and is therefore comletely vulnerable.

Rooney is finished mate. He has been for about 3 seasons. His only defined role is as a striker and he isn't good enough for that now. The one we need to mention is Fellaini. I think Jose kept picking him because he was a safe bet (much like with Van Gaal) while Jose tried to figure out his best 11. BUT the truth is Fellaini is a ****. He adds **** all to our side and should NEVER have got the game time he has. Thankfully Jose has dropped him now, but if the ****er is back tomorrow, I will be seriously pissed.

Not the Press as such as they are the ones who give him oxygen, more the rest of football. Personally I stopped reading/listening to him years ago.
