Ok, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, because in no way am I saying that he will challenge Messi's title as the best player in the world.

I am however confident that Ashley Young will prove to be just as prolific and valuable for Man Utd as Messi is to Barcelona, and I also think that he will prove to be just as valuable to England

If you don't believe me, look at England's last 3 matches. Young was superb against Wales and Denmark, then what does Crappello do for the qualifier vs Switzerland? drops him for Milner, and we end up being lucky to grab a point.

Of the current crop of England's players, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney are probably the only ones that are both in the peak of their careers and fulfilling their earlier promise. The rest are either past it or are merely "promising". It is for this reasons that I feel that Young will prove to be one of England's best players between now and 2014.

Of course Man Utd are far stronger than England and can cope without Young, rather like how Barcelona can still win well even without Messi, but Young will add that something extra to our team that was missing last season, and it is because of this that I am certain that we will, at the very least, win the league again this season.

Can we have a tumbleweed icon added?;)

Welcome to the forum Rick, I cant see him being anywhere near as prolific as Messi, though that would be nice!
He is a good player who will create plenty as he suits our style and he is PL proven, it will be interesting to see how he does against parked buses as its not something he came up against too often at Watford or Villa.

I dont think we will see the best of what Young can offer until Hernandez returns, as neither Rooney or Berbatov are great in the air.Hernandez` sharpness in the box could prove the making of AY.

PS were you on 606?I remember your name, though I thought the 606 version was a scouser.

In terms of valuability of Young to United compared with Messi to Barcelona, well there just isn't any comparison. You take Young out of the United side and we won't be missing much. Take Messi out of the Barcelona side and a large chunk of their play is gone. They still probably would beat most teams in the world but it would still be a significant loss.

I still think Young is a good signing, adds a lot to our squad and if SAF plays him and Nani together, offers a very different attacking force compared with Nani and Valencia.

Messi doesnt just add that little bit extra for barcalona, he makes the diffrence. and your being a little more than deluded if you think young will help united even a 10th aswell as messi helps barca. He'll be a good solid player for your but no way will help your team as much as messi would help barca, thats more than an exaggeration
