I didn't read the article properly and had assumed it was one from Rovers and one from Hull. I also thought it would be our two idiots refusing to lend the Council City players. Poorly researched thread.
:emoticon-0142-happy:emoticon-0142-happy:emoticon-0142-happy I'm not suggesting we boycott it!

They should have got someone with a big torch because the lights will be as underwhelming as usual.

And? It should still have representation from other professional sports within our City.

It is a bit harder to win a Cup or get an international cap playing football.

"The City Of Culture year will let visitors see that we love our sport in Hull. Not only do people love their rugby league they like wrestling and darts as well". Cllr T Geraghty speaking at a time when his city had the only Premier League team in Yorkshire.

Whilst that is true it has nothing to do with this situation.

I'd rather two local lads that love the city were doing it than a bloke whose only affiliation with this city is that this is where he gets paid.

Name one current Hull City 1st team player that cares as much about this city as those two do.

It's the first time we have had City of Culture - so why would it usually?

Not sure why you think that has any relevance.

Its a local Christmas light switch on and has nothing to do with the CoC, people will be completely oblivious to it outside of Hull.

Kempton, DMD, Tubbylard and others are local lads who love the city. Should they be turning on the lights on if that is the criterion?

I agree with the principle, it would have been nice to have picked a local person that has done something exceptional for charity or the local community to reward them for their efforts. Although I'm sure there's more worthy candidates than those you've listed!

There was a Lord Mayor called Sean Chaytor
Whose anonymity could not have been greater
    Although I'm no judge
    He's better than Fudge

Things that happen in November 2016 have nothing to do with City of Culture 2017.

I don't think laying paving qualifies as s City of Culture event, even if a lot of the workers seem to be spectators.

They could always market the unfinished building as Performance Art and get visitors to pay to watch the workers going slowly about their business.

Any thoughts as to why has no council organised Bonfires this weekend? Though there will be a massive one on 1st January. Not much in the way of other bonfires either, other than one organised by the residents on Bransholme. Plenty in the surrounding areas.
