Just visited the Hull thread for this match and there is more discussion about the merits of Southampton as a place to visit than the match. Even The Southampton IKEA gets as many mentions as the game. Nobody sees a win or even a draw. One poster put up the 5-0 win from years ago to raise spirits but it isn't working.
Can see this being a win but more like a 0-1 result as not convinced that we have much of a goal threat with Jay not looking so hot and Charlie needs a few chances before he bags one. Can see us keeping a clean sheet however. Goal scorer to be Tadic or Boufal.
On the bright side, and not directly relevant to this thread, so apologies in advance, our friends down the M27 failed again in their bid to win the FA Cup, falling at the first hurdle
They only did it so that they could avoid playing us at some point. They want to hang on to their 4-1 record by hook or by crook.
I usually use crayons and paper. Or maybe a pencil and school toilet paper to trace it from a book. That was high tech at Denmark Road Junior School in Cowes.
The modern use of namby pamby soft toilet paper has robbed the modern child of the joys of tracing with Izal.
East coast, of course. Bet it's bitter. Just imagine what it's like for AberdeenSaint.! There's an old meteorological lesson which, with small exceptions, is true. In the west the weather is wetter and milder, and in the east it is drier and the temperatures are more extreme, according to season. This holds true whether it's a huge continent or a sizeable island, like the UK. I lived in Kent for 6 years and was constantly surprised by the weather. I didn't quite realise it when I left Southampton in the early 1990's, but living back here since has let me know that, as far as the UK is concerned, we've got it just about right. Of course, we do occasionally get the old temperature inversion, but that's what comes with having a microclimate in a valley.
It stopped unnecessary trips to the toilet. I mean you only went if you were desperate, that stuff was sharp!
I am not remotely confident. I've watched Southampton a few times this season and I've been very impressed, even in defeat against Chelsea you looked very decent. I can't see us not conceding with the strike force you've got, so we'll need to score, but I can't see us managing that with the weak forward line we have (unless Mbokani is fit enough to start) and the strong defence you have. I think you'll win 3-0.
I always notice it is around 4-5 degrees warmer on average when I`m in Soton. Hailstones this morning!
Of course, all that goes out the window when you visit St. Ives in November. It's blowing a full Atlantic gale at the moment and it's bloody freezing!
I always find it colder in Southampton than in Newport on the Island. Cowes can be colder as it is windier, but we are cosy toes in Newport.
You're definitely sheltered from the prevailing wind in Newport. One of those quirks I mentioned. Just imagine living in Freshwater.! On the whole though, the Island helps to protect Southampton. I'm in the north of the City, so I'm a cosy toes too.
