Great to see the three promoted teams all up there - albeit after only one fixture. Shades of last season when we, Leeds and Millwall all did similar. Southampton tore Leeds apart yesterday evening and looked superb. Three cracking goals and reward for their long suffering fans. My tip for auto promotion
Southampton and Brighton will be string this year. You've got west ham and Birmingham who will inevitably do quite well then you've got middlesborough, Forrest, milwall and reading all going for it. Also a reinvigorated Cardiff lead by malky could also do well. Same old championship, same old slugfest, great league.
Its impossible to go by the first game for who will do well, go back to the beginning of last season... We lost to a very good organised outfit in watford and for the first 2-3 months they were playing very good football and lurking around the top 6 yet they fell over remaining months, other teams that done similar were doncaster, who well and truly played us off the park and derby, though we beat them when we did at there place, before that defeat they were playing very well and were top 6... Come back in 15 games, thats when you have a bit more of an idea of who will be near or there abouts come the end of the season, just look at us... The last 2 seasons on opening games weve played 2 lost 2 conceded 10 goals and scored 3, though finishing the season promoted both times Must say though a good win for them lot on the opening day of the season...
Most of us Townies aren't getting carried away with yesterday's win as we know that there is a hell of a long way to go I was there yesterday and what impressed me the most was the clear desire and hunger shown by the players even when they were warming up beforehand. That has certainly been missing in previous years and the togetherness shown by them was just fantastic. When you have a proven goal poacher in Chopra you will always have a chance of scoring goals. PJ knows that we need to strengthen in key areas and he will be doing more business by the end of the transfer window. This was a great morale booster for the start of the season and I am delighted that my Ipswich Town is now under safe and proper management again.
Even so, JWM, the table must make good reading for Town fans - for now, at least. Do you want to borrow any Kleenex? For the nosebleed at your lofty league position, what did you think I meant ???
Hey Cromer I will leave the W******g to you lot as you have a lot more experience! If we are up there come November then I may just take a leaf out of your book!
Talking of ****ing I stayed up to 12:30 this morning just to watch the 20 second slot we managed to get at the end of the Championship round up on the League Show! **** me even the bore draw between Florist and Barnsley got shown before us!
You've also got the BBC media darlings West Ham and Leeds to deal with this season so it only get's worse.
That's true Northampton! TBH I hope we keep below the radar and just carry on doing the business like you boys did last year!
This quote got me thinking.............. How many seasons outside the PL before Leeds are regarded as just another team (by the media)?
I don't think it'll ever happen for two reasons, Leeds won a lot in the 70's also their based in a fairly big city in Yorkshire (one of those regional places always represented by the media), if they were from Shropshire for an example it might be a different story.
Top of the League Well I never What endeavour But on this day one, Let´s not forget Nothing yet In the slightest has been won In fact I´d say That on that day To lose might have been best, Someone we know Began to grow After failing their first test But well done blues Not headline news But hopeful all the same, That we can do As well as you When we play our first game. OTBC
Well thank you RBF again For such a pleasant rhyme I like to post replies to you In verse from time to time. You say that not the slightest thing Has been won but you are wrong We won three nil and that's a start Though we know the season's long. A winning start is always good But we're level headed guys We know that there is far to go With lows as well as highs. So back to you, my feathered 'friend' Can you really match the binners Are you really optimistic That you'll finish up as winners? So despite the shallow pleasantries And inter club accord You have won far less than us We've three points on the board. And by the way, there are no plans For celebrations yet We'll just enjoy our first game win With three times ball in net. So just to match the mighty Town That's three goals you must score And if you want to better it You need to look for four. Now I can't see that happening So listen budgie foes Before you tell us how to act See how your first game goes.
