13.3mil for a manager whose CV reads: 1 Portuguese league title, 1 europa league I challenge you to read that back to yourself without bursting out laughing He might be the next Mourinho, but he could equally be the next Scolari. Rafa Benitez came to Liverpool with a more impressive CV - do Chelsea fans think that he is a good manager? Seriously, and you guys have the cheek to mock our signing of Phil Jones, or Liverpool's signing of Henderson? (though I very much agree with the last part)
Nice one Rick, your going to be a big hit on this board mate Everything is in the mix and AVB comes highly recommended, agreed he has only won his country's league and the Europa cup in this his third season in management but the omens look good and he has won the dressing room. For me his maturity will be measured in his control of a big squad and how he handles the non regular players. Having been under the tutelage of the worlds best, Jose Mourinho it follows that he's endorsement of AVB can be taken as read but time will tell. P.s. Phil Jones has it all to prove and I fully expect to see him heading back to Blackburn in two years time for around £13 mil.
What a numpty. He says we have a 'cheek' mocking the Henderson signing but then agrees with it. Probably just another southern glory boy.
I believe SAF's CV read of similar calibre when he took over your manky mob. I don't think you must have taken a look at our pre-season record this year, 6 games, 15 scored, 1 conceded. Plenty of possession in those games too. Now I know pre season should be a doddle for top teams like us, but you can only beat what's in front of you and it's a pretty good start. Man oh man I can't wait to play United this year
Rick --my son, I think you might be already beginning to regret your hasty prediction! ABV is the new Messiah! Mark my words!
Phil Jones is a good signing, Henderson is debatable, Villas-Boas has a lot to prove but looks like he has the qualities to do so.
Avb is the biggest signing of the prem this season. Spend 13m on an unproven manager or 35m on an unproven player
i've wondered why are people like buck / abramovich willing to take genuine punts on foreign managers like avram grant and now AVB when there are plenty of british managers who would do an equal job arguably? how will england ever get a decent amount of top managers if they are never given an opportunity to prove themselves? if fergie (scottish i know) was starting out now he'd struggle to even get an interview, let alone a top job!
Roman (and not Buck) is focused on winning all the prizes, but primarily the CL. He'd appoint a Martian if there was one around who could achieve it. So sar his managerial choices have been good ones who have got us close, but seriously I cant see one at the moment I would fany for the job.God rest his soul, if Brian Clough was still alive, he'd be getting begged by Roman to take the job,but I suspect Brian would not be swayed by the money.
Exactly, when a british manager actually achieves something then they will get picked up. Liverpool took on Roy Hodgson, Spurs with 'arry so it does happen to a point and Arsenal and United haven't had a new manager in 15-20 years so they haven't been looking anyway. Chelsea take on Managers who have won European honours not just kept a promoted team in the P.L or had a good cup run etc. It's not for clubs like Chelsea to take a punt, it's not their problem. Let the managers prove themselves first over a sustained period.
Foreign managers are much better anyway. Assuming Scotland constitutes as foreign, name me one English manager that has done a better job than a foreign one in recent years? For years the likes of Fat Sham have just been about hoofing the ball to a number 9 striker and winning and this has transcended onto English Football at grass roots, the continental managers i.e Wenger, AVB, Mancini etc will have much more success because they try to get their teams to play. Bar Redknapp I can't think of one English manager that does this.
he's appointed avram grant & scolari. grant when his only managerial experience is in the israeli league. scolari because presumably he got won the world cup 6 years before with brazil and got portugal to a final, he hardly spoke english and was a disaster. my point being that if a manager does do a good job with a lower table team like pardew or the scottish moyes and cant get a top job on the back of that how will they ever get honours / cup wins? spurs, ramos being a disaster, then redknapp turning them around. how would wenger, AVB, mancini do if they were english? they'd be stuck with lower table clubs because top clubs wont take a chance on them. AVB was given a 'top' job in portugal off the back of his relative success of avoiding relegation with academica. in this country he wouldnt be given that job and would be stuck managing clubs of academicas size for years, thats my point.
