Krul will be first choice this season

You can't help but feel a bit sorry for Harper. Personally I think there is nothing between them in terms of goalkeeping ability so I'd have gone with Harps because of his experience. I think we should have assured Krul that he will defiantly be first choice next year but tell him that Harps will have it this year. After all Harps deserves for all the years of service, one last season.

I don't for one minute doubt Krul's ability and in 5 or 6 years I think he will be one of the best keepers in the game. At the moment he is good enough for a bottom half team and playing every week will help him improve. It'll do his international career wonders as well. I just hope his inexperience doesn't cost us like it has in the past.

I agree there's nothing between them so i'd rather Krul, he can get better where as Harper can't. Time to look to the future and keep him as number 1 for years to come, also would lose Krul if he wasn't number one so Krul all day for number 1

 

Feel really bad for Harper but with all the injuries he's got since he's been our number 1 I wonder how much he would even have played this season if we'd chosen him. To be fair though, Krul played more than him last season, finished the season with the shirt, and then went on to become a full international over the summer. I know we say this about every old player we like, but I hope Harper stays with the club in some capacity.

 

Very good news for Krul, who deserves it. I am sure Harper will get a good amount of games this year as well.

Harper isn't as good as Krul, my mam could beat him at his near post and don't get me started on his ability to come out for one on ones. Nice guy, great servant to the club, not a fantastic keeper.

 

My one problem with Krul is that he doesn't cope well with set pieces. He always seems to be in the wrong place. Fantastic shot stopper though, and there's been plenty of games where he's kept us in it, Arsenal away last season being a prime example.

 

Harper has been great for us and while it'd be nice to continue having him as our #1, such sentimentality would hinder progress. I do hope he sticks around and becomes a coach for us though.

10x better then Forster at set pieces though. Hopefully Krul has improved this aspect of his game a bit for the coming season.

 

While this is the correct decision IMO as Krul is the better keeper and can become a lot better, it does raise the question of why do we complain there's no loyalty in football, if the most loyal player in the world is now being cast aside?

 

Tim Krul is dump at one on ones. He always commits too early
