I though someone would have answered this by now but my guess it goes back to the middle ages and the ability of kings to have folks heads chopped off. Agree about Moyes, the owner claimed he was the man he had been after for five years so he has to show faith regardless. Right now they are both painted into a corner, but the paint could dry enough to work for both of them eventually.
Latest waffle: Sunderland boss David Moyes still has the backing of the club's owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain despite failing to win a league game.(Mail) Well I hope that's true. Sunderland are doing wonders for my accumulators under Moyes. Unsure why he'd want to stick with Moyes, but probably a combination of "sticking by his man" and no one decent being available right now.
It means absolutely nothing when a club states they are behind a manager, I've seen them sacked days later.
I sense a little hope in that sentence pops. Come on then, you've been around a while you've lived through every managerial change since the 1890's... is Moyes the worst? Who would you choose to replace him with (I know it's not your job) hypothetically?
Aye if I associate it with anything it's the sound of the bell tolling before the axe falls. I do feel sorry for Moyes, I think he's a decent bloke and he's doing his best with a crap squad. If we can't get Allardyce back or someone better (both seem very unlikely) then I think we should stick with Moyes and let him slowly rebuild.
I feel sorry for him too. Well, a little bit anyway. Short basically expects him to perform miracles. But he appears to have left his magic wand behind.
Someone should have told him that Sunderland is where you got to kill your career, not rebuild your reputation. Seriously though I can think of worse things than going down with Moyes (that sounded a lot more ginger pubeish than I intended) and letting him get the long term project underway. I certainly wouldn't sack him without someone **** hot lined up, it's not like he's single handedly ruining the club and needs removing before he finishes the job. He's just a bit of a damp squib but he might be alright in the end.
Chris Hughton at Brighton would be my choice Newcastle **** on him when he we doing a great job. Now at Brighton he's doing really well
He's not single handedly ruining the club. Most of the stuff that's wrong is nothing to do with him. I just feel he's a bit of a final straw.
He was an absolute gent and the fans were behind him. The club did indeed **** on him as Ashley does what he wants. He would do a good rebuilding job for you if you go down but I don't think he's the guy to get you out of this (plus why would he leave Brighton?)
I can think of 40,000+ reasons, first one being the chance to get one over Ashley. He is a decent manager to boot, and not a bad shout for us imo., but I think Short will stick with Moyes for 8,000,000 million reasons, but if he is forced to walk by the crowd who knows.
That's a dangerous game to play, the Venky's gave not one **** about the Blackburn fans who hounded Steve Kean to relegation. There's a healthy way to vent and you lot should learn from Newcastle's example that it's not to publicly destroy bridges with owners who have pumped money into your club to keep your head above water.
