Interesting but not good enough, maybe a complete ban on any benefits for 5 years and private heath insurance for 3 years before they can claim anything.

The EU needs to change quite a lot

The problem there is you are asking for things that a soft Brexit may not deliver. Particularly if we try to keep the ehic for our pensioners in spain and our tourists abroad.

But I can see what has influenced your fears.

Putting a huge importance on the length of time an EU worker can claim any form of UK assistance should they fall out of work, before our economy i.e. full single market access - is absolutely bonkers.

It's going to be a more democratic process now and we like democracy.

Excellent news, I'm glad you've seen the light and abandoned the remoaners.

Any price is worth paying to protect democracy and remove us from the undemocratic EU. <ok>

No, with the correct democratic process being adhered to.

The Houses will now have to sign off what 'Brexit means Brexit' actually means, and May and Co. will only be given a mandate in terms of our exit that is acceptable to our elected representatives and the peers.

I for one will be contacting my local Tory MP and asking him to cast his vote based on the election manifesto him and his party were elected on.

    :)

A Pyrrhic victory would've been brexiteers triggering A50 and leaving the EU without ensuring it resulted in a beneficial outcome.

For those of us who want to see out in a responsible and accountable way, regardless of timescales then this is good news. Not a victory, but confirmation of the role of our parliament and UK constitution in ensuring a prime minister cannot act as a dictator and overrule decisions made by parliament.

It will certainly force May's hand. She will have no choice but to be far clearer in what the Gvt's exact proposals for Brexit are.

Those plans will then be open to parliamentary scrutiny.

The other potential problem for May, as I mentioned some while ago, is the significant pro Europe element in her own party. She only has a very small overall majority and if that element of her own party were to vote against any hard Brexit proposals they found unpalatable, she's a dead duck!....

How can you tell parliment what you are doing when you dont want to tell the EU what you want, until they need to know.
You cant play poker when the other players know your hand.

It's not poker. There is no winner/loser. It's in both parties interest to get an agreeable deal within the 2 years.

The dumbest thing you can do is trigger A50, lay out your position and then be told by the EU they need 3-6 months to analyse your demands, thereby reducing the available negotiation time by 25%. The idea that you can surprise, bluff or bullshit the EU into agreeing to something because you hid your cards just isn't going to happen.

She's going to have to if she wants parliamentary backing for her strategy. She won't have a choice.

Parliament is not going to approve May saying 'trust me'

I understand that, but why give away what you plan.

You need to do A50 before the EU will listen anyway. So why give up you ace?

It's called open democracy. I expect May will already have made her strategy clear to EU leaders before she has to announce it in parliament.

As I said earlier, the biggest potential stumbling block for May could well come from within her own party.

But let's see what the Supreme Court says first.

LONDON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The British government still plans to trigger the formal procedure to leave the European Union by the end of March and does not believe a court ruling demanding parliamentary approval will disrupt that timetable.

A spokeswoman for Prime Minister Theresa May told reporters on Thursday the government had been clear it has 'prerogative' power to trigger Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty which starts up to two years of talks for Britain's departure from the bloc.

"Our plan remains to invoke Article 50 by the end of March, we believe the legal timetable should allow for that," the spokeswoman said.

Pete genuinely had visions of May's Big Reveal. She was going to be carried into the European Parliament on his shoulders with Kustard following them riding a British Bulldog, all four of them wearing Union Jack jump suits. Our brave PM would go toe to toe with Juncker and deliver New Britain's demands in freestyle rap format before dropping the mic and moonwalking out of the room blowing raspberries to the tune of Rule Britannia.
