But isn't that the whole point of the 'Fair Pay' thing? It doesn't matter how rich your owners are, you can't spend it unless you have 'earned' it.

The Chinese, anti gambling!? Are you kidding? Without wishing to stereotype they are gambling mad. They'll bet on anything that moves. Ok, it is technically illegal in China (which is maybe what you meant) but its endemic in their culture.

Wow, pretty racist. I'm sure living in China for two years means you're suitably placed to judge a whole society of over a billion people.

A lot of very questionable stuff being written here. Being sceptical about a take over is fine, I am aswell, making assumptions about what the people or buissness will be like based soley on the fact they come from one particular country is dodgey af.

    (Edit)
Also might be worth considering that there a sh*t ton of problems with 'british culture' before talking about other countries.

Oh stand down tbd, he's just posting a view that they seem to be jumping all over investment schemes in the West, whether they have a clue, passion, or anything else is all conjecture at this stage.....but they certainly want in.

Did you read the part of the quote that I highlighted? You have no problem with someone making such a sweeping statement?

I like what we are and what we represent right now, and how we're run.

    But everything changes, I guess.

Wait and see is the order of the day. Again.

    Never boring, is it?

There's a lot of money leaving China & looking to invest in new projects, but I see his comment as generalising with the yanks ect, buying into something, they perhaps don't fully understand. I'm sure he has nothing specifically against the Chinese.

I'm not talking about ithat, this is the part I'm talking about:

"I lived for two years in China, and although I try to be as open-minded and tolerant as I can be, that society and culture is ****ing disgraceful in so many different ways. I'm not hating on individuals because I met so many amazing and wonderful people there, but collectively - the social conscience or whatever you call it - they're too much. So many problems, but they all just choose to brush everything under the carpet and live in denial while continuing to bark the governments bullshit slogans etc."

Which, to me, seems to suggest he does have something against the Chinese (namely that he thinks their "culture is "****ing disgraceful in so many different ways."

I think it is sad that no one can now express an opinion without being jumped on as being racist. The whole point of cultures is that they make countries different from each other...and not all are as good as one another. The way women are treated in many countries is disgraceful and I will speak out and criticise vast swathes of Africa and Asia especially. Doesn't mean that I think any one person is inferior to another because of race or colour, but I can say that their country is out of date and inferior in this modern age. Black has lived for some time in China and doesn't admire everything about their culture....he is at liberty to say so. He says he has known many good people, so he is not attacking the people, but their attitude to life. Lots of people make sweeping statements about Americans...not many leap up to complain there.

I am getting increasingly concerned about attempts to stop free speech by playing the race card. I was at University in the 60s and believe me anti-racism was a major issue with the young then, but, like feminism, was concerned with real issues. Everyone having the right to go where they like (i.e. no signs saying 'no blacks') and having equal rights to education and work. Now it's moved on to the silly level...white girls criticised for having cornrows for example...not for looking daft (true)** but for appropriation (stupid).

**Who can forget Gaston's hair do.

Anyway back to this thread...I have always said that I saw the Leihberrs as protecting us from bad owners, but if it goes ahead, we can only hope it turns out well. Nothing we can do but hope.

Glad you said this Fran. I was thinking I was the only one who didn't see this post as racist especially as he made a point of saying he met lots of wonderful and amazing people there. It's a communist country with a poor human rights record so it's not really surprising that Black wasn't happy with some parts of their culture. Are we all supposed to just pretend some things aren't happening for fear of being called racist?
