Is doing my head in! This isn't to do with Barton's latest snub, although the argument of Capello saying he may get sent off is ludicrous...when was he last sent off? An absolute joke!

The reason for this article is that the bias towards the top teams is bordering on ridiculous! This was evident this time last year when Smalling was called up for the squad. I'm by no means saying he isn't good enough, but it was blatantly obvious that if he stayed at Fulham, played week in week out at the level he was playing at, he would not have been selected. However he moves to Man Utd, sits on the bench and gets a game here and there and gets in the England squad.

Now we are seeing it again this season. Phil Jones was quality last season for Blackburn, but he never got in Capello's squad. Now he gets a big move to Man Utd and before even kicking a ball is put in the provisional squad, albeit not making the final cut.

Then I see that Wellbeck has been put in the squad. He had an alright season at the unwashed, but wasn't anything too special. Now he returns to Man Utd, scores a couple of pointless pre-season goals and gets in the squad. If he had signed permanently for Sunderland last season instead of on loan, would he be in the squad ahead of the likes of Sturridge and Bent? Doubt it!

    Rant over :)

I heartily agree, except that the Sturridge point is a bit weak considering he's back in the Chelsea side, at least for the time being.

Well he shouldn't be ahead of Bent should he? Imagine if Bent moved to Man Utd he would start every game for England!

Yes, but more importantly the strikers are Carroll, Crouch, Rooney and Wellbeck. How can you possibly have Crouch and Wellbeck over Bent and Sturridge!

England squad to play Netherlands on 10 August:

Robert Green, Joe Hart, David Stockdale, Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, John Terry, Kyle Walker, Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Stewart Downing, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Scott Parker, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Young, Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck

That is why I dont watch England any more. Capello hasnt got a ****ing clue how to manage a national side. Even Carroll shouldnt be in there, he's scored 2 goals in 2011.

From that squad, my formation porn would be something like this

    Hart
    Walker Terry Ferdinand Baines
    Parker Wilshere
    Young Rooney Downing
    Carroll

    Capello on Barton

'I think he is a good player,' said Capello. 'But he is a dangerous player because sometimes on the pitch you can play ten versus 11. He might get sent off. He's a good player, but the problem is sometimes on the pitch.

'This is not a good moment to decide something about him. When a player is fighting with his club it is normal to stay outside (England's squad). The relationship between a club and a player is really important.'

No I wasn't saying he should be ahead of Bent, I just meant that he is at a big club. I completely agree that the squad choice is ridiculous top to bottom

I will care about England when Capello goes.

What is this quote about BArton getting sent off?

I like Capello and think people expect way too much. He is working with a set of players who are about the 9th or 10th best group of players in international football. Quite simply, we're not that good but for some reason we expect to win handsomely every game,

I only have one major gripe with Capello. Gareth Barry.

Barton is a difficult pick for any manager once you take our bias out of it. I'd imagine the FA will not be keen for him to be picked because of resulting bad PR and media frenzy dredging up the past.

For my money, you could lose Ferdinand, Lescott, Richards, Barry, Terry, Carrick, Downing and Lampard from that squad and replace them with players who are actually worth watching.

Half of the squad is just top four players who could play as badly as they wanted and still get in the side, and the others are one's who the media have forced Capello to pick based on hype.
