Thought so, good to have you back, btw... You going tonight? Me and the boy are heading up, couldnt be more excited...
Yes I'll be there with my lad and his mate.. I never went anywhere really, just been posting a bit less partly due to being away and partly due to trying to keep away from negativity. It's not healthy. Felt myself being drawn in as I have before, so thought best to step out of that match thread - best all round
Ah, just unhealthy debate - everyone is right and everyone is wrong... Your views are valid, as are everyone elses. But when the fun stops. Stop
Oh, also, where is the Farmhouse (if some of you are going)? I park in by a rowing club, past Britannia Road (on the right), past the Petrol station on the right. No idea how id get to the pub...
Traffic depending (difficult to judge midweek sometimes from Northampton), I'll be there. It's the Old Farmhouse on Mount Pleasant Road. Depends where you are coming from, but if you were at the top end of Brittania Road, North of the stadium, you crosss the main road into a residential area (can't access that entrance by car) and walk up a straight road for about 500 yards and at the top there is a small roundabout and the road goes round to the left. 100 yards the pub is on the right just after the level crossing. 5 minute brisk walk from the top of Brittania road, Its a workhorse pub, but convenient. The last few games there have been 5 or 6 different not606ers there. Good fun to discuss the game with some great people who are starting to feel like mates I've known for years.... oh and Vin goes too
That sustainable concept was really Cortese's which he sold to Markus....and even Nicola had to borrow some money to finish the job. I cannot see a consortium sharing those ideals....they'll want a successful club that reflects well on them and to clear a lot of money eventually. Consortiums don't fall in love and you can't love a consortium. Nothing we can do about it, but wait and see. We may have a good ride, but I suspect we will lose that special pride we have in our owners and club. I will have to pack my smug mask away in the loft.
That would be the same years that Saints have been building sustainable growth within their financial means. It's a bit worrying that having seen us improve year on year there is a still a sizeable fan base that is of the view that we can't move forward without throwing money around. It may work for a short while but difficult to sustain year on year.
I should perhaps have said progress to the level that has been the club's publicly stated aim. You'll also have noted that over the last few years progress has slowed. I mean, yes, we've technically improved our position the last couple of seasons but we've essentially remained consistent in the 6th to 8th area and most people would accept, and in many cases expect, a step back this year. Spending more money doesn't have to mean "throwing money around" either. If you look at the net transfer spend figures in the Premier League you'll find us near the bottom. We made a £20m profit on transfers this past summer. As others have said the latest financial figures aren't out yet but we can almost certainly afford to spend more money. On players, on the stadium, on wages, on whatever. If an investor is prepared to put their own money into the club then so much the better.
I am hoping we don't end up throwing money about that we don't have. Debt if you have it should be realistic. Any debt which can only be serviced if assets are sold (including players because if you have to sell you won't get the best price) is not a good way to run a business. There is always the possibility you could lose everything and I don't want to go down that road again. Ask Leeds, Pompey etc if their brief glory was really worth it? Not in my eyes. Yes I do want Saints to progress but I would rather they engaged their brains to achieve it and not spend money like some others do.
I definitely don't want a sale like United...where the purchasers paid for it by effectively mortgaging the club. Fine with an income like theirs, but not for us. I hope Katharina insists on rifling through their safe to make sure the funds are there. And there is still the problem that owners can't throw money at the club....if you are small, the system tries to keep you that way.
Chancers, but can't blame them for wanting us. For £50M less you get a Sunderland or WBA, the math just don't add up.
