im getting that feeling again where if I think about it too much it gets me on a downer so I go into default I don't care mode before it eats at me. I'm catching up on 'The Apprentice' and having a spliff.
It's just a sad state of afffairs that the CL is the holy grail of football, and that players want to play for clubs that can offer CL football. It's become the be all and end all. Seems a bit daft really, considering only about 3 clubs have a chance of winning the thing. I hope we don't let this tournament (which has proven to be nothing but a nightmare so far) take priority over the FA cup. May actually have a chance of winning that, (whilst subsequently trying to qualify for the "holy grail" again to keep everyone happy the following season)
dont be too hard on yourselves lads, you were very fortunate not to lose by 3 or 4 in Germany and Leverkusen were always likely to have too much for Tottenham tonight, you were up against the best young side in Europe and the experience will not be lost on your own young players
Last season Pochettino was apparently a great manager in the making, in charge of the best spurs team since the 60's, talked up as a manager who would have done a better job then AVB, Redknapp, Jol, Venables & Pleat. Fast forward a year and suddenly he's out of his depth at champions league level, players don't have confidence in his system, football is incredibly dull to watch and his fans are turning against him. Berbatov was sat in the Royal Box looking as cool as ever, how would Pochettino have managed such a player? "run berba run".
Through very gritted teeth... Take your points on not turning on the lads - that's spot on - but there's also no point in papering over the cracks. What worries me is that this hasn't just happened, it's been on the cards for weeks.
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli: "I don’t think anyone can work out what is wrong. We are playing well but we have got to finish our chances and have got to keep going." Worryingly inaccurate comments, Mr Alli.
I see your plan. Lose tonight, lull us into a false sense of security thinking we will beat you, complacency sets into our players' heads and then, when we're all least expecting it, you perform like Bayern Munich on steroids on Sunday. I can see right through your cunning plan but we won't fall for these mind games! I hope....
Self-deception is a bad sign. That generally comes from the top. It's one thing maintaining confidence but another to not be honest about underperforming.
There is also no point in the huge over reaction from the run of poor games. These young players are susceptible to crisis of confidence when things don't go well it's why as players get older and slower their experience can fill in some of the gaps for a while. The reverse is also true. It is disappointing because we all had such high hopes following the bulk of last season, but they haven't all suddenly become poor players and MP is not suddenly a bad manager. I am pretty confidence that we will have some great performances this season and in the future.
No one is turning against Poch! But to be fair, the selection was wrong and obvious before the game even kicked off. Last season many of us said we never wanted to see Chadli lead the line again as it didn't work on several occasions. Now it's Son. Seen enough and it doesn't work. Again. It's not about players not having confidence in his system, it's more about them being in these incorrect roles/positions and/or being mixed with new additions to the squad who haven't had much game time with one another. It's glaringly obvious when you can't put together a few 5 yard passes because the teammate you expect to be there, isn't there.
Damn it, I thought we'd nearly pulled it off...... Frankly after this evenings debacle I would be looking to put out a 2nd string against us.
