Bottom line: The manager, as well as the vast majority of the players, are hopelessly out of their depth at this level. What I had looked forward to with such hope and optimism is rapidly turning into a burden that is draining our season of life and confidence. Does anyone seriously believe that we would benefit from qualifying out of this group? How on earth would we get past the last 16 playing as we have been?
And dare I raise the subject of not having an on field leader? Headless chicken syndrome and the captain is silent at the back, causing much of the confusion.
I agree totally CK. during the game I said to myself I'd rather that we go out in the group stage than get humiliated in the last 16
Have not seen a team make so many mistakes since I watched Bath City play Chippenham Town....back in the days.
True, but it's amazing what pressure and lack of confidence can do to anyone. I'm not making excuses, but Poch has a lot to answer for tonight. Half of that **** wouldn't have happened if the players had the confidence in the selection. You could clearly see they didn't, as they didn't know where their teammates were most of the time.
Far too many candidates - and ironically Walker for all his **** ups was probably our best forward player!!
The problem is that we'll likely finish 3rd now and get dumped into the Europa League. I guess that at least provides a chance for the youngsters to play another 2 games this season.
It's down to the Wembley factor. Giving away home advantage effectively. And it's a special venue for away teams. Add to that the absence of key players in your spine - Alderweireld, Dembele (for the most part) and Kane.
Out of interest, is there anyone on here who now agrees with my opinion that signing up multiple players en masse to new bumper contracts actually sends completely the wrong message to the squad and leads to lethargic, indifferent performances?
Not good, the team is devoid of confidence and that means playing by numbers for them all. It doesn't mean however that we are as bad as the comments on here would suggest. This is the point where fans start turning on the team and manager which adds to the problems. One good performance will make all the difference in the world and that could still happen on Saturday.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. There's a possibility of us finishing bottom of the group playing like that!
This has been coming for a while to be honest. And other than the City game we've failed to put a full decent game together this term. Our league position is quite flattering and there are some serious holes that need filling. Maybe the return of Kane will make a difference but don't see it being the single solution.
