ah so that's why we have United in our name, always thought it was due to the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle Wast End teams, but now I know!

Do you think all other team suffix's are entirely literal then - i.e. did Oldham Athletic get their name from their habit of doing star jumps whenever they didn't have the ball, did Bolton Wanderers originally walk out of the stadium during a game and go on a country ramble, and did Hamilton Academicals like to do a bit of calculus and trigonometry while games were in progress?

are Airbus UK particularly adept at aerospace engineering, are the Mysterious Dwarves particularly poor at high balls into the box, are the Civil Service Strollers rather lax at defending, and are Botswana Meat Commission....sorry, I can't think of one that's going to do THAT name justice.

Would suspect Airbus UK are actually quite good at aerospace engineering as its the works team from Shotton in Wales. But they are big lads - very good in the air.

So you're seriously trying to tell me that you think the "United" in Newcastle United" is because they wanted to prove that they were the best of chums??

Not actually anything to do with the combination of two clubs (Newcastle East End & Newcastle West End) to form Newcastle Utd? - as, the two clubs - you know, united to form a single club.

Maybe you should go with the old saying - "better to be silent and be thought an idiot, than open your mouth and remove all doubt"?

Not getting involved in the above with our 6 fingered friends from down the road but back to the point of the article.....:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Lacselles only needs to look at the lads who left this summer and what has happened to them since leaving the club for bigger teams in the EPL.

Sissoko - no goals, no assists, banned, cant nail down a starting spot at Spurs
Wijnaldum - Benched and again not one worthy contribution at Liverpool to speak of.
Townsend - Had a good start at Palace but is withering now and seems to have been dropped in favor of Zaha
Janmaat - At Watford, they've had a good start for them but not sure he's playing week in week out.

Going to Chelsea would be a mistake on his part - will he get past Cahill, Zouma, Luiz, Terry, Azpilecuta (Dave) to one of those three starting CB's spots? I'd seriously doubt it.

    BUT

Money talks and they can obviously afford much bigger wages for him. £18m would be a good bit of business anything over £22m would be fantastic and allow Rafa to reinvest in the rest of the squad with some EPL quality for when (or if) we go back up.

Guy at work who supports Liverpool was saying Gini's been a great signing for them and key to how well they're doing this year, apparently we used him wrong in the no.10 role, and for Liverpool he doesn't get goals, but totally controls midfield.

If we go back up, would buying back Townsend be an option?

I don't see the point in going back over on most occasions. I did like Andros though - so perhaps a maybe. Would he dislodge Matt Ritchie though??

I'm sure he is happy at Palace and enjoying life there. His dip in form comes with being a winger in a squad where they have a bit of depth in his position. I know the usual suspects would like to present a Pardewing (Chronicle/The Mag) but its just not all that sinister. Townsend has told his manager he wants right side, Zaha is in form and truth be told at their respective bests there isn't much between them.

Gini is capable of playing in many roles in midfield. He had a decent year for us considering it was his first. Liverpool are simply the ones reaping the rewards, regardless of position. Most knew this would be the case as the lad has obvious ability and pedigree. He is just a good footballer and I'm sure he'll do well. He will be more bit part at Liverpool, its a massive step up.

Sissoko obviously we've done them big time. Its hardly a surprise to us he's struggling. They've been had and I suspect Pochettino did not ask for him. He is the opposite of what he likes in a player normally. They have far better players.

Janmaat will be first choice at Watford when fit but that is about his level. He is PL but is a bit limited. Not least because he is a wing back. He can't play right side and can't play right back. If you adopt 3 at the back then yes he seems a different player at wing back. Not sure how Watford play?

Lascelles doesn't really need to look anywhere to see if its worth it. The reality is he simply has to ask himself - am I good enough to play ahead of the likes of Cahill, Zouma, Luiz, Terry, Azpilecuta or am I simply going there to make up the English quota? If it is the latter do I want the money or the game time?

I'm pretty sure he will stay put and I doubt very much Chelsea's interest.

If we go back up I would be all for bringing Andros back, as you say he would have a battle to get infront of Ritchie, BUT apart from Matty Ritchie I'd say our wings our our weakest position, is Gouffran good enough for the EPL? He wasn't last year and behind him we have Aarons and Atsu (if we buy him) so I'd be very keen to get Townsend back plus maybe one/two more wingers if those three behind Ritchie currently don't end up staying.

Be interesting to know if we inserted a buy-back clause in the transfer originally.

There are clubs older than Sunderland who have United in their names. Just to clarify.
