A council wanting people to stay in the centre eating and drinking? What sort of off the wall thinking is that? Leeds was pedestrianising its centre thirty years so. It is depressing to see what they have done in Leeds in the last 40 years whilst Hull has changed relatively little.
During the last few months I have had to fly to Europe a few times, mainly from Manchester. The main drag from Picadilly station down towards Picadilly gardens is literally full of dozens of homeless people in every door way practically. I am not talking your opportunist "spare any change" type we have in Hull, I am talking people with proper big sleeping bags and rucksacks, fast asleep all over the pavement. It was actually quite intimidating getting the early train to to the airport from the city centre, the bus shelters were full of the homeless/drunks/druggies taking advantage of the lights and smoking pot (at first I thought it was people waiting for early buses). I am not sure what has happened in Manchester but something has gone drastically wrong. Probably shortage of money for support services I suppose.
Has Leeds got a national football museum? MOTD studio? or even a Premier League team? Comedy Store? Anything near Manc music heritage, Salford Quays, Trafford Centre etc?
What has its music heritage got to do with the quality of the city centre? Or how **** their football team is? And the Trafford Centre is nowhere near Manchester city centre.
Football & music represent a city's culture but back to the city centre Manc Corn Exchange is a decent addition and the tram network links the city together better than Leeds, I prefer Manchester.
Isn't the MOTD studio is Salford, an entirely different city? I'm pretty confident Salford Quays are anyway... And what's good about Salford Quays? I used to work there until a couple of years ago - there's a few offices, flats, tv studios and a **** outlet mall that makes Princes Quay look dynamic. It's really not something to shout about as an attraction. I'm not into a Leeds vs Manc debate, I like both city centres, just some of these examples of desirables are a bit odd.
In Manchester's favour, at least it hasn't got fifty knobheads on off-road bikes terrorising its city centre.
Apparently, some dipshit thought it would be a good idea to use social media to get fifty people on off-road bikes and quad bikes, to pile round the pedestrian areas of the city centre.
They're still working on it, I think it needs a cruise operator to get on board as the operator to make it feasible.
There does seem to be some debate about how deep the water needs to be. It's deep enough at Sammys Point apparently, but that's a **** place to have it, Albert Dock would be a better site, but is a bit shallow (they'd have to dig it out and keep dredging it, or have a long jetty thing to get to it).
Long jetty things into the deep watery bits would work (I'm surprised the haven't hired us as consultants given our level of technical knowledge!)
There used to be 'big boats' at Riverside Quay before the War. Similar to the big NSF boats on the Humber (pontoon jetties) at QE Dock. Dredging would facilitate things as deep channel is on Hull side of Humber.
Oh dear. Bayes suspended by the Labour Party again. His COC portfolio (titter) handed over to Steve 'Yentob' Brady. I **** you not.
