The Tories have a bit of a track record of baffling senior appointments ... Colin Moynihan as Minister For Sport was a doozer ... had the perfect qualifications as far as the Thatcher goeverment was concerned ... a cox in a rowing boat who knew absolutely fcuk all about the national game ... as the subsequent calamitous government handling of the Hillsborough disaster proved beyond any doubt ...

Edwina Currie's appointment as Minister For Secure Knicker Elastic was also rather naiive in hindsight ... although, in fairness, John Major obviously wasn't too put off by a hindsight ....

Boris probably knows how to ask for a beer and to enquire which of the local girls "do it" in several languages ... so he ticks all the boxes as far as the government is concerned ...

 

Would you be referring to the same Boris Johnson who penned a poem in which he referred to the Turkish PM having sex with a goat?

Johnson has natural intelligence and he's very well educated.
He seems to lack any common sense at all though, makes silly, spur of the moment decisions and he's lazy.
I don't think that my opinion of him varies that far from most peoples', though his image is very cultivated.

What would it achieve?

I do find it rather annoying that people simultaneously abuse people and moan about others doing it.
