I'd describe him as: not as good at going forward as Davis, and not as good at defending as Romeu, so he's in the middle. Basically trying to link between the two. Although Pierre is better at it I think.

Hmm. Got to say some of the posts on here sound either like "you weren't at the game so can't have a opinion" or " I know better then you so you shouldn't have a opinion". Everyone has a right to a opinion and a right to express themselves. If you feel it isn't right or your opinion is different then say why instead of coming across that your opinion is worth more, when it isn't.

What some posters don't get is many including myself use this forum to vent when we get annoyed etc. It may seem that we are constantly moaning but that is because like every football fan we get frustrated. No one is writing the team off and saying we will be relegated etc etc.

All I was saying yesterday is Davis has been poor this season. This isn't me saying Davis has been poor because I have something against him. This is me saying he has been poor because I notice it more due to how good he was most of last season. (As for me saying we need a rb,cb,cm and st. I and many others have been saying we need a cb and st since the start of the season).

The biggest thing wrong with match threads (and why I hardly post in them), is most posts will be spur of the moment. You aren't exactly going to go "that was brilliant Davis, I would just stand and watch Hazard as well" you are going to get annoyed or post something. I think people that don't post in it until after the game need to remember that you are just seeing a persons thoughts at that moment.

At the end of the day we are all Saints fans. That's not shout each other down over a few posts in a match thread.

    Good post Beef.

Also the thing that annoys me is there's never any in between on this site.

Post a criticism/observation and you're writing us off after one game etc.

My gripe this week-end was that Not 606 has been better than most because individual players, (except Guly), are rarely picked out for excessive criticism, but for some strange reason, Steve Davis was deemed to be the devil incarnate in this game, it wasn't just one poster, a whole raft of critical posts, yes, he didn't have one of his better games, but he wasn't solely responsible for the defeat, he was doing the job that Mr Puel had given him, he wasn't helped by Jordy also having a bit of a mare. We were beaten by a team that were better in most aspects of the game than us on the day, including some dubious tactics.

No one called Davis the devil incarnate. I have always criticised players when they play poorly ( before anyone says it, no I do not shout abuse etc at them when I am at a game).

I just think it was really poor to let one of the best players in the league go without tracking him so early on in the match and it put us on the back foot straight away.

My other posts about him not suiting this system as much as previous ones aren't an observation made on this game alone. More something I've noticed throughout the season. Infact I mentioned it earlier this week as well.

Don't actually think bar the mistake Davis was any better or worse than anyone else yesterday.

It needed to be said, once would have been sufficient.

Again you are viewing posts that are posted when a person watches a game. When they see something bad in a game ( or good) they aren't just going to say it for the first bad (and good) thing they see, they are reacting to what they see.

It's a bit like when you watch a movie, you aren't going to just talk about the movie as a whole, you are going to pick things out that were bad/good.

Now the game is over I have moved on. All the players get a clean slate and I will judge them on their next game.

I am not saying that you were wrong, just that you and others said it too often.

Davis ****ed up early in the game; cue 90 mins worth of posts saying he's not good enough, etc.

Imo he's not been as effective so far this season as he was last, because he's still getting used to being asked to play a different game. But he was getting a proper slagging on here yesterday, which, again in my opinion, was completely unjustified.

Some people like to vent on forums, well fine, go ahead. Others get annoyed by relentless negativity and slating of individuals. So if you're going to vent, expect others to push back. What's the problem?

Excellent post beefy. I cannot bottle up my emotions when I get frustrated like I did with Davis. It's a heat of the moment thing.

Probably an unpopular opinion but - i thought we played very well yesterday. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say we were beaten by a better team.

Probably the best game ive ever seen from Romeu. Tadic had an almighty job to create anything through such a well organised defence but he gave it a right go. Van dijk was a monster again. Austin looked dangerous under difficuly circumstances. Clasie was the only one i thought had a bad game, would prefer Hojbjerg.

His set pieces weren't that good either tbf. But nothing was as bad as that weird moonwalk dance Martina did.

And if you moan at people venting expect a push back. What's the problem? :emoticon-0110-tongu

Yep because the in between is neutral so no one objects to it.

I'm not sure Romeu covered himself in glory for Chelsea's first goal. I could see what Davis was thinking: he wanted to double up on the player with the ball. Romeu just took up a position, but he could see Hazard going into space.

Good post! Davis made one error as far as I could see. Clasie did what he could (and won one or two key balls) but was, generally, muscled out. The reason Claude doesn't play Pete Hojberg every game is that he is still getting into the pace of the PL. if you want him knackered and injured for key games (like Milan) then go ahead and expect him to play.
As many on here have said, we were beaten by a street-smart team who played the ref well, got bodies back behind the ball and broke quickly. They DON'T have European football to worry about and they have unlimited funds, so I'd expect them to be better than us. I was pleased that, generally, we matched them. We made a couple of errors and were punished. Let's move on and stop moaning. We do need a deeper squad, we missed Shane and his runs yesterday. I'm worried for Charlie - he's taking a lot of punishment and was oh so close yesterday.
Let's hope we can get the pigskin in the old onion bag a few times on Thursday night. I imagine they'll come to frustrate - so an early goal would settle us all.
Come back, Fats, we love you :emoticon-0103-cool:
