I think we sold around £80m worth of players. Well that's the money we got anyway, not convinced many of them were worth anything like that. Not sure who Sunderland have who they would get good money for (not meaning to be a dig). Pickford, Kone, Van Aarnhold, Cattermole, Watmore, Borini? There's a long way to go this season but if it ends the way ours did last year I can't see Sunderland being in a position to accumulate nor speculate like we did.

They have an excellent academy and youth prospects so it may be a couple of years rebuilding and coming back as a very different prospect after a longer journey in the championship. Long term both our clubs are top flight clubs and will end up back there eventually.

Don't you watch Dragons Den man <laugh>
SAFC's Turnover (money coming into the club) is around £100M per year, with Operating Costs (money going out of the club) of around £125M leaving a Short-fall of about £25M.
Because of FFP rules we would need to massively increase our Turnover in order to spend more on players and their wages. We hardly make any money on Sponsorship, Retail & merchandising compared with the top clubs.

Stopped watching that years ago mate, when I realised they knew no more than the rest of us.

Most of those operating costs you refer to was excessive wages on average players on ridiculous contracts.

We've shipped almost all of them out now, so at least that problems no longer an issue for us going forward.

Thing is blunham - IF what RTB has said is right (no idea TBH) , it's not just £25m he's spending - it's £81m plus the £25m he spends every year - not just spending the £25m mentioned - means we are spending £106m a year and still going nowhere! How the hell has it got to this!!

Edit - ignore me!! I've just realised that this has already been brought up further down the thread!!

    Still holds true though

Hadn't given it much thought RTB. But I was thinking back to some posts months ago that mentioned all the overpaid deadwood players being moved on, like Fletcher, Graham, etc, and that they were the last of the massive salary's. I might have imagined that though. :(

Apparently last season we had Defoe on 80k, Borini 60k, Catts 50k, O'Shea 47k, N'Doye, Brown, Khazri all on 40k

Just according to an article I read the other day (those figures are what I remember - but N'Doye 40k a week? **** ME!)

So we still have some very high earners at the club meaning our wages are massive when compared to turnover (I think although I suppose, as someone said before, we'll only know when the financials are released)

I'm his biggest fan but he was not at his best on Saturday, I think apart from the points raised above he was beaten too easy for the third goal better positioning and he would have saved it, but he will learn I am sure of it, so far he has been outstanding, but with the continuous battering his goal is taking I am a bit worried for him tbh. we could do with Vito back to give him a break, as the other bloke does not sound like the answer from what I hear.
