What would happen? OK, I rip Rupert Murdoch off all the time as I can get any sport I want on stream. How do you see things going if Sky, BT, et al pulled out altogether. Hypothetical question of course because I can't see it happening in the near future. But imagine a scenario where loads of people cancel there sports subscriptions. TV companies start making big losses. No more telly money = no more multi million pound wages & football going back to when I was a boy. What are your thoughts?
It'd be like a football recession, clubs going bump everywhere. It'd take decades to recover from but the kids would be less focused on the G-Wagon and more on the medals I reckon. Think of all the poor agents, what would they do?
Maybe we'd see the match, get the bus home, but first queue at the local newsagent to await the arrival of the football pink to see the days other scores and match report. Happy days
I'd go back to pre tele overkill in the blink of an eye. Back to 3pm Saturday kick off for everybody, marvellous. Sure clubs would struggle in the short term, proper wages would fall in line quickly and fans would get a sense the players were at their club cause they wanted to be there and were not overpaid mercenaries. Get rid of all the agents, TV pundits and tune into sports report at 5pm to get the results, brilliant. And as a nation we might get back our national side who were actually picked on ability and not which rich club they play for, happy days. Then I woke up and realised it was all a dream, never mind.
We would without doubt be a top 6 team , how would Bournemouth, etc fare ?. The thing is though even in the 1990's you had Wimbledon who were getting about 6,000 on average and they were still finishing above us. It is shocking to think Bornemouth get 13,000 tops, we get 31,000 MORE nearly every home game, what the hell is going wrong they are a corner shop we are asda and they are above us, not possible.
Sky have played it cute by keeping the means of broadcasting then selling them on to other companies all over the world. The Asian market and its associated gambling companies are the biggest money source.
i only opened this thread cos i though the title said If TV pulled the pud on football, i had a corker ready
