I remember when Kimi got a penalty for merely crossing pit entry overtaking Ricciardo with no other cars around. I would love to see inside the FIA stewards room to understand how they think.

I agree I don't think it would have affected the result, however it would have impacted his strategy at the first round of pit stops. However, regardless of the results rules should be implemented fairly and consistently.

Yeh possibly. I'm just so frustrated with the ever increasing list of contradicting rules which are ruining the fairness of the sport.

Vettel’s radio rant in full: “I’m going to hit someone…”

    After the Verstappen incident…
Vettel: “Move! Move for [bleep] sake!”

Vettel: “He’s a [long bleep], that’s what he is.”

Vettel: “I mean, am I the only one or are you not seeing what I’m seeing? He’s just backing me off into Ricciardo [bleep].”

Engineer Riccardo Adami: “Charlie said that…”

Vettel: “Yeah! You know what, here is the message for Charlie: [bleep] off! Honestly, [bleep] off.”

    After the Ricciardo incident…
Vettel: “Honestly, I’m going to hit someone I think I have a puncture, rear left.”

Engineer Riccardo Adami: “Tyres are fine, tyres are fine.”

    On the slowing down lap…
Vettel: “He has to give me the position. End of the story.”

Team boss Maurizio Arrivabene “Sebastian, Sebastian, calm down, calm down. They are under investigation. I know that it is not fair but calm down. Put your head down and we talk afterwards.”

    Vettel: “OK, copy Maurizio.”

Technically the comment of "here is the message for Charlie: [bleep] off!" could be seen as bringing the sport into disrepute. I assume he'll get a wrist slap but I was half hoping to see Ricciardo in the podium room for shear hilarity factor.

Yes, all joking aside, the inconsistency in the application of rules and decisions is shocking.

Not strictly true, a 5 second penalty for Hamilton would have come before his stop, did he have a 5 second gap before his stop? It would have been a lot easier for Rosberg to overtake through the pitstops if he only had to stay within 5 seconds of Hamilton in the first stint, which wouldn't damage his tyres.

I can't remember the old Peraltada, but the Parabolica is hardly the biggest overtaking spot these days. I thought the baseball stadium had been built over the old corner, rendering it unusable, but apparently that's not the case and the stadium is infield of it, the formula e track did use the full Peraltada, albeit still with the entry neutered and a pathetic chicane:

Even if you had to go through the baseball stadium, the entry could have been a much better overtaking opportunity. For example if they'd entered it later on the line the F-E circuit uses to come out, it would have been a bigger braking zone and aided overtaking. Sharpening up the 160 degree turn in the stadium to a full hairpin would have helped too.

Talking of Kimi was on for a good finish had he not have pitted again, I don't think he was feeling comfortable with the tyres.

Really lost respect for Rachel, I know it's her job but I'd take Lee Mckenzie over her any day. Knows where to draw the line, Sky will go as low as never been before, putting words in drivers mouths.

If I was to make an attempt to justify the steward's decision, I think you have to start off saying that both Hamilton and Verstappen could have made T2 if they really wanted to. Had there been a polystyrene (or ideally more substantial...) barrier on the grass, both had sufficient control to miss it and return to the track sooner.

That said, Hamilton returning to the track into T2 could have been quite dangerous. On a different line at a with 21 cars behind fighting their own battles, it could have got messy. The same excuse can't be made for Max. Also Vettel was at least shaping up for a move on Verstappen, Rosberg was too busy fighting off Ricciardo.

That's not to say I agree with the decision...

I'm not sure Vettel had enough on Max to warrant the penalty.
