Watch that one again - had nothing to do with Matip. Benteke beat Lovren in the air, then Lovren gets beat again by MacArthur on the cross (Moreno's only mistake really, that goal and the build up). As said though, he didn't go to pieces and had a decent game against a hard, physical attack, and luckily never reacted by strangling Zaha when the Manc **** dived just outside the area (or a dubious tackle, as seen under the rim of Diego's flat cap whilst watching Salford TV).
Just look back 5 seconds before. first ball matip beats benteke in air and clears and I think benteke bundles him over but gets away with it.. it's then that benteke gets on lovern. Matip never let benteke have a sniff... he was taken out and next thing lovern manages to let anot her goal in.... bit harsh but still.....
Could do with that Palace lad who diverts goalbound headers with his hand. #youwouldn'tknowit'snotonsalfordtv
I think Ninja offers more than Can. Guess it depends what we want in each game. Good that one of them plus the likes of Studge are bench options though
I'm obviously a big Can fan but I'm going off the fact that Can appears to be a Klopp favourite (I think he's started every time under Klopp whenever fit). As harsh as it sounds, I think it's Lallana who will be dropped. Because he was only forced to play in CM because of the injury to Can, and Mane was bought to replace him as the attacking wide man. But as you say, all of them are good to rotate with without a drop (or very little) in quality.
If Moreno wasn't Moreno he wouldn't be half as criticised as he was for his "mistakes" yesterday. It was a really good performance at a tough ground with his own supporters generally on his back. Not closing down a cross is barely a mistake, it's up to your CB's to anticipate the danger if the ball does come in. He's been good the last two games and I hope he kicks on and gives Milner some competition for that LB spot.
Agree with all of that except not closing down crosses. That is everybodies' job, especially the full back. Stopping crosses at source eliminates 100% the chance that an opposing player will get their head on it.
Stopping crosses is the basic job of a full back, unless he's being told to stand off and allow them to cross which I can't believe is the case. You say if it wasn't Moreno he wouldn't get criticised as much, well that's because it's a constant thing. He makes the same mistake over and over and that's what's frustrating. Not learning from mistakes. Anyone can make an error, not a problem. But making the same ones over and over? That's when it gets criticised. He was decent going going forward yesterday, didn't actually have too much to do defensively, but he made 4 individual errors. 1st minute stood off Zaha by 10 yards to allow him to cross for Benteke. Later on did same same which was their 2nd goal. Tried to clear with his outside of right foot and scuffed it to guy on edge of area. Tried to pass it inside after winning the ball and passed it right to palace player inside our own area. Only got pubished once but it's constant individual mistakes which lead to shots
Every player consistently makes errors during a game, but once a player at this club develops a reputation every single error, big or small, is highlighted and criticised. Yeah I'm not saying don't go and block the cross, there is a flip side, go and press the ball, close it down and risk getting beaten by Zaha with no cover behind you, yeah poor decision making, fine.. That is only one phase of play, the next is dealing with in the air, tracking runners etc. Look I'm not saying it wasn't error, because it was, but Moreno was an 8/10 yesterday but all I've read is about the one incident in the game. If we're expecting a player to make zero in a game, sell them all and be done with it, let's be truly honest, if any other LB in the league had the same game as Moreno yesterday it would of been classed a very good performance.
But it wasn't one error... it was 4 errors In a game where he only had about 6 defensive things to do!
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate. I hope he carries on the improvement and personally I'll give him a chance and accept he'll make mistakes (as every player will) instead of keeping a tally when watching him.
I hope he continues to improve as well... but given him 2 and a bit seasons worth of chances... times running out.
