Good point away from home, also Frankie saving a penalty, could have easily lost this game and we're still 6th
And me, but the fact we're failing to kill games off or see the clock run down to get 3 points proves there is still a lot of work to be done and that we are some distance from being the finished article. But it's still positive progress, so well done lads.
But isn't that the same as Wigan, Burton, and Blackburn in our favour plus the draw against Derby. Sometime it goes for you sometimes not but at least it's interesting with us.
LJ was right. 1-0 down and facing a first half injury time penalty, you would have taken 2-2 at that point. Saw the highlights. BBC also say least Barnsley deserved was a draw. Seems like a draw was a fair result. Annoying to let late goal in, but this season we must be in credit on that point.
When we were a goal and a penalty down I think everyone would have been happy with a point. Generally a good day's work, and special praise to our in-form goaly. Interesting that when we went 3 at the back it freaked everyone out, including us. Maybe we need to try it out for longer in training before we employ the formation at a match ?
Don't play that formation and players again. very poor at times, no width till later on with Bryan and lamping balls up to Wilbraham who did well with rubbish being chucked up to him but struggled to find teammates. Smith and Reid anonymous at times and to much football was sideways till it went up to Wilbraham. Expecting championship players to rotate and switch sides like they are something in la liga wont work. And here is the one who can switch and create = Tomlin should be told by the manager and staff to shut the **** up and concentrate on his own game not the refs and his teammates and he would be playing in the top division. Liability for much of the game giving the ball away cheaply, The ++ were Fielding man of match, Magnusson close second and Bryan who changed it as son as he came on as he has that extra quality and can cross a ball v chipping it kicking up the park to a wrestling match. GON dependable and tidying up for others.. Felt like three points were dropped but its one gained . Lot to work on. 3-5-2 for me Bryan one side of the 5 over to Lee the Tinkerman.
Just out of interest, do you think Smith and O'Neill are to similar and we should sacrifice one to play the extra width player? As much as Smith was my favourite player over the last two season's I do worry that playing the two together make us too narrow.
There is a danger, I feel. Its a bit like the Lampard and Gerrard together. Both have their qualities but O'Neill shades it for me with his experience and forward creativity. No harm in competition or squad depth though. Happy with both on their day.
I agree. The way I would play them together would be to me, Bryan left side Patterson right side and pushing Tomlin up forward closer to Tammy. A bit like the Mark Hughes early role alongside the more natural finisher. Bit like this
In the diamond there were very narrow with and without the ball, In 3-5-2 they are in more familiar positions. Goldbourne and Mathews didn't provide width either. Bryan could and did do what Smith O'Neil Reid and the fullbacks didn't. So yes players were too similar. and it was disjointed leading to lots of sideways over to you stuff as players didn't want to overlap and then wrong or it went long up to Wilbraham. for me its who has to play the keeper or keepers Flint Magnusson O'Neill Bryan Tomlin Abraham and then come the ???? Wilbraham was very good yesterday. Pack v Smith? lot of questions?
The Barnsley penalty was pathetic, 'in-form goaly' ? Have a look at his positioning for their 1st goal. Junior must think O'Donnell is worse than useless. If my Dad took that penalty we'd have been 2 down at half time. Against Blackburn we were dire and could have easily lost. That after losses at Cardiff and QPR who both lost at home this w/e. We're papering over cracks, we need to improve or Brighton will walk it. A settled side would be a start.
Think Brighton will be very hard to beat. They looked impressive on Saturday. Mind,Norwich's goalie was in quite generous mood
I'm worried about the Brighton game tbh - I'll be in Bridgwater for the carnival but have reserved time to find a pub showing the game. I agree about a settled side - and formation too. Positively though - we are playing poorly and still getting points.
Lee Johnson on the BEEB..... "It was a rollercoaster for me, that's for sure. I'm disappointed to have not got the three points, but in fairness on the balance of play, a draw was probably a fair result. "It was end to end with lots of incidents. I thought the referee liked the sound of his own whistle in the first half. That was driving me a bit mad." IN TRUTH we are still not good enough! 17 shots and 7 on target 1 goal, if you count the penalty 2 ... we are only as good as Barnsley ! similar stats for the game!
