As long as he's gone by the time the transfer window opens, otherwise it really could well be curtains for us as he won't spend money. Saying that, I don't trust the Yanks to spend anyway.
Agree. Hopefully this will give them the incentive to spend. However, if we are still in the relegation zone come January, we can add at least £5m to the price of any player good enough to improve our team.
Another worry is if we spend a lot of cash come January how much will be left to replace Leon, Rangel, Routs, Dyer Jonjo (still haven't replaced him technically) in the summer? As you say, the lack of investment over the last 3-4 years is now biting us on the arse big time.
In their heyday, that's 100 million quids worth of talent there....£35 mill, £25 mill, £19 mill, £20 mill, £1 mill.....................
Being a bit generous at £1m aren't you? But, to replace what Leon gives/has given you're talking a bloody lot of cash there.
If we had to buy a player of Leons class, in his first few seasons in the Prem, I don't think £35 mill is far off the mark comparing him to other Prem players. When we got promoted I was looking forward to seeing some of the top players in the world playing at the Liberty. I can honestly say that no opposition player has really stood out. I would have expected Rooney to be outstanding, he hasn't. We missed seeing Christiano Ronaldo, We've seen Aguero, Bale, van Persie, Costa et al, but I can honestly I have never left the Liberty and said, "so and so was outstanding today". I can say that about Leon though!
Agree fully. To replace Leon you are looking in the bracket of £25-£40m easily in today's market. Look at Pogba and Mikhytarian at Utd, 89m and 35m for them and Leon is STILL better than them at the age of 33/34.
Pogba at 89 million is one of the most staggering purchases in football history. When it mattered, he was anonymous for France in EURO 2016, yet Man U went and paid that for him. He is a tall, rangy, athletic young man and may prove to be a very good footballer - but I wouldn't put him anywhere near the class of Christiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Messi.
TBH the way Paul Scholes keeps talking about him, I don't think he's going to end up being as good as we all potentially expect him to be.
The days of clubs buying midgets today are long gone...Leon would be worth £3m at best and that was in his prime, He would never get another premiership club as he could only get Sheffield when he was in his prime......Tidy little player who is useless against the more muscular sides and never got close to ever playing for England because of his height as there were many more MF players ahead of him.......We need better today someone who has some meat on him and can last a 90 minutes......
Leon in his prime would be worth £3m at best? ****ing hell And you wonder why people give you so much stick on here? He'd be worth £40m easily in his prime in today's market
