It's a tough one, I've often thought about this (obviously), but basically I'd want somebody who had a proven track record in this division, and was able to motivate the better players in the squad. Boothroyd's not got a club at the moment, I reckon he'd be a good shout, been there and done it in this division.

Exactly Larry, but try telling that to our man Percy.

well said, I too watched on TV, nowt wrong with that if you live abroad.. City were far from ****, but we missed the the chances we created and that is not the manager's fault.

Subbing Barmby ahead of Simpson - yes you may have a point and maybe Jay would have had the younger man's ability to reach Brady's ball.

Percy - you're beginning to sound like a broken record and getting very irritating. Ever thought about supporting Leicester? I know a man who would happily share a thread with you, he's got some crown jewels and you two could spout crap all day long at each other to your heart's content.

I'll get accused of bringing up Brown again in a minute...

Brown's primary objective in the Premier League (y'know, the league Pearson's never reached) was to stay up, so defensive tactics can be forgiven. Pearson's primary objective is to get promoted, so what's the point in playing defensively?

Thomsen, you're doing a very good job of spinning my posts and making look as if I expect "Barcelona football", I don't, I just expect our tactics to consist of more than "hoof the ball up to the midget who should have retired years ago".

I just think you have unrealistic expectations and nothing more really. I know if i went to every game expecting too much id probably get pissed off very quickly.

Exactly when did we play defensively last night? We played possession football for the most part of it and created a lot of chances. We weren't at all negative, in fact we created a lot more chances that the team who last season in the premier league were lauded for there attractive passing and attacking game. You truly are a clown sometimes.

Well I think you have very low expectations. So there.

We created one more. We played well at times but from 20-83 mins it was very much like last season. Piled on the pressure at the end but obviously by then it was too late.

True, we forced that brilliant footballing side into some ridiculous long punts, we played far better football in that respect.

We created more than one. I can only remember them having about 6 shots on goal. Hardly, we were all over them for the last 20 or so mins, in fact their goal was stupidly against the run of play.

Defensive tactics are indeed necessary in the premier league, but when you're at home to the likes of Blackburn and Stoke you really have to go for it if you want to stay up, which we didn't (results reflect that). If anything, we were attacking against Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal.
Pearson still has every chance to reach the Premier league. Like i said in one of my posts we created more chances last night than we did in most home games last season, all we had to do was score them. Had we done that, we could have scored 3/4 goals. I illustrated the points of progress i saw last night previously, but i would hardly call last night 'defensive' and on par with the stuff we saw at times last season.

Not low expectations. Realistic expectations! Also I have an open mind and not fixed ideas.

What irritates me is that we are capable of playing good football, and we do so in every game - but for a period of about 5 minutes. Then we end up hoofing it.

Playing defensively is a separate issue, and one that I have no issue with.

I agree that we need more flair but then we need more players so its catch 22 really.

We rarely hoofed it last night so what are you on about. Most of our play was neat football with passes to feet.

I'd also like to add that McKenna was ****, which disappointed me.

On a side note, anyone know what the team will be for Macclesfield?

Aidy Boothroyd is ****ing ****. A Championship failure. To say he should be in over NP is laughable, a step back.

It's all about patience. NP is building a team on limited finances (beyond his control) from the wreckage of a Premiership squad that failed. Out with the old, in with the new. And it takes time.

After the 30 minute mark, and especially in the second half, our players looked very nervous with the ball at their feet, which concerned me. They ended up lumping it.

They looked that nervous that the defence were comfortable enough to pass it between themselves for large periods...
