To me, it just demonstrates that the 'lag' effect has been greater than at first anticipated. It doesn't mean it's not coming...

China is a worry, I agree. If they do slow up dramatically, the world's economies will suffer. The US is not yet anywhere near being in the position to adopt their traditional role as the driver of the world economy.

Banks in trouble! Nothing new there....

There is definitely a sense of them (not all) wanting the economy to crash in order to be proved right.

Instead, they could accept it, deal with what is to follow and crack on with life <ok>

    Yup.

Tbh I wasn't looking what the article was based - more on the original posters credibility regarding choice of source.

I dont see why the Remoaners hatred of the Daily Mail should reflect what I post. It's not like they are able to refute what is written. They just dont like the Daily Mail.

And also fails to prove the point. I'm not disputing that some of the grade improvement is due to less rigorous exams. The exams were tightened up in 2012 because of it and have been replaced altogether for my daughter who started studying GCSE this year.
I'm telling you that an O level is and never has been the equivalent of an A level. My sons A level further Maths is way beyond the scope of O level, regardless of year.

That's ridiculous, with all due respect. I'm as concerned as anybody, my family still live there and I have property there.

What's called the Lag effect is sometimes hard to judge. Economically, you know what is almost certain to happen given a certain set of circumstances. What's more difficult to judge is how long these effects will take to feed through.

If nothing much changes, 2017 will be when the major fallout from Brexit will start to be felt by 'the man in the street' in his pocket...

You have no idea how tedious to research every Mail/Express story to get to the underlying truth. Every story has a basis in fact but is so selective in which facts are used so as to subvert the original events.

It's interesting that the countries most eager to have a trade agreements with us are SE Asian / Australasian.

If you look at their exports then you start to understand why. Australian key exports fell 30% last year due to lower demand from China and a slowing China will only make that worse.
They are desperate to find alternative markets for the raw materials they export.

Thats good then, we need the raw materials, so as the £ has fallen, we can get the materials at a lower cost due to no tariffs, a win win.

Why would we ship oil and raw material from Australia if it's available closer to home and therefore cheaper to transport. Sorry but we will continue our reliance on Russian coal, US/ME oil, Brazil/SA/Ukrainian iron.

The key interest for Australia will be prime cuts of beef, in the same way we import high quality lamb from new Zealand. This will involve agreements on how much subsidy we can give our farmers.

There is, obviously, a significant transport cost attached to importing from the Far East. Transport costs are one of the things that are sometimes forgotten. The gross or net price is looked at, but the cost of getting to the point of use is frequently not.

Let's hope oil doesn't suddenly take off!...

    That barely makes sense.

For the second time, Kustard, Dorris isn't a name unless you're referring to a city in California. It really is a shame you managed to breed but at least it makes Zlatan happy.
