.I think Sturridge has served us well and don't like it when fans get on his case [not thinking of anyone in particular here]. His list of injuries has been more than can be reasonably expected or accepted in the long term. Klopp obviously felt he was malingering hence the comment but I think he's been scared to play/push himself and where that was okay under Rodgers, Klopp doesn't want to hang around waiting. He's brought in competition and is encouraging inventiveness in the final third meaning Sturridge is going to have to jump on board or be left behind. I'd absolutely hate him being sold to a competitor.

I've not really moaned about Studge bar his greed. He doesn't close down as I'd like but he's scored plenty.

I've said we should sell him because of the injuries but also because (much like with Benteskey) I don't see how he fits in.

I've always liked Sturridge and I'm certainly not getting on his case, but it is natural for us to try and read into things more than can be taken at face value. I think Sturridge is a much more sensitive soul than Milner. Milner seems pragmatic and will just get on with it, whereas Sturridge is the type that needs to be loved.
This is my take on it anyway, added to the aforementioned suspicion that injury has made him afraid to take risks.

Yeah...greed...I accept it more in strikers as a necessity but I expect a bit of wit too..look up and make the right decision.

Only evidence I have for how Milner "looks" is since being shifted, showing doubt, the reaction from Klopp was "explanation given and accepted" since he's not opened his mouth since and is an automatic start now......says it all really.

Yeah Jim you're right Milner doesn't have the same competition but I'd also suggest he fits in more...Sturridge while an exceptional striker doesn't fit as well as the others..

Sometimes the sum of the parts is greater while the individuals might be weaker than Studge one on one...they are better as a forward team without him.

As I say...I don't really care...if he sorts it out and is in the team more than not...happy days...nobody wants a player not to work surely?

Apparently, the stats show that we score more goals without Studge than with him.

Daniel Sturridge is not part of Liverpool's best XI - Lawrenson
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge must show more "bite and fight" to be a first-team regular, according to the club's former defender Mark Lawrenson.

Sturridge scored twice as the Reds beat Tottenham in the EFL Cup, four days after he was an unused substitute in the Premier League against West Brom.

"He is a class act but is not in Liverpool's best 11," said Lawrenson.

"They have Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, it is just not possible. I think it is a bonus to have him off the bench."

Lawrenson, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, added: "He is by far and away Liverpool's best goalscorer and he can make himself a goal out of nothing.

"At the moment he doesn't start but no problem, he can come on and score goals and change a game. Why sell him? Why make another team stronger?"

Sturridge, 27, is yet to score in 348 minutes on the pitch in the Premier League this season. He has, however, created two goals and saved his goals for EFL Cup action, with four in two outings.

In four full seasons at Anfield he has hit double figures in the league twice, scoring 10 goals in 2012-13 and 21 the following season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged his player "could have scored three or four" in the win over Spurs but described Sturridge's all-round contribution as "brilliant".

"That's his strength, he's a finisher, a really good striker... no doubt about this," said the German manager, after his side reached the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

"I never was in doubt about him even when he didn't score. Not a question."

Sturridge was one of 11 changes from the side which beat West Brom on Saturday, taking his place in a side which featured a number of youngsters and squad players.

The England international converted from six yards to give Klopp's side the lead and raced clear to add a second having missed a series of chances.

I think Sturridge deserves his own song
I think it should just be the ah's followed by Sturridge to the tune of Thunderstruck by AC\DC :)

In fact feck Sturridge, we should employ a guitarist to play that riff at the start of thunderstruck at the start of every match and get the team to run out to it while the crowd chant the ahs and Liverpool instead of Thunder and let Klopp get the team going to some proper music ( think Klopp would appreciate)

By far and away our best goal scorer and will still do a job if Klopp chooses to play 2 up top or is happy to have him lead the line and bang them in at the expense of pressing. Suarez would have been such a good fit for Klopp; the goal scoring of Sturridge with the trickery and work rate of Firmino. We'd be mad to sell him though as other teams would play to his strengths and he's a great rotational choice against teams we'll dominate for possession. Against teams who'll have more of the ball, I'd prefer Firmino.

    He can fit in.
You need different types of players in a squad.
Selling him would strengthen a rival.

    Nail on the head.

I think in the united match where it was pretty even and each team was petrified of losing the ball/match or where teams dominate possession, you want firmino to press and introduce a quicker but more messy type of game.

In games where the opposition will just hoof it back to you as they are defending for their lives and don't need you to press so much then sturridge is that ideal player who can score from a piece of magic.

Question is, will he settle for 2nd fiddle

Sturridge is often the last to leave Melwood due to his commitment to be in the best physical shape that he can possibly be. [@TonyBarrett]
